Jeff Lynne really does sound a lot like John Lennon

When I first heard Hot Child in the City by Nick Gilder, I thought it was a lady singing it!

Going through your list...very legit to confuse those. I can hear what you did to make those choices!

I thought that "Wedding Bell Blues" by The Fifth Dimension was a Supremes song whenever I'd hear it on the local Oldies station in the late 80's (I was like 8 or 9 at the time). :)

Yeah, one of those R&B/post-disco-queen ladies, eh?

Hasn't Bowie SUNG "All the Young Dudes" in concert?

Yes, loads of times. It was part of a medley on the 1973 tour, in a stripped down soulful rendition in 1974, then rested for many years until mid 1990s. Since then it featured on most tours that Bowie did.
Bowie recorded a studio version of "All The Young Dudes" during the Aladdin Sane sessions, but it's oddly stilted and not as good as the Mott version.

I Cheat The Hangman by The Doobie Brothers sounds more like CSN

The first couple of times I heard it on the radio, I thought "Something In The Air" by Thunderclap Newman might have been the first single released by Blind Faith.

Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress - thought it was T.Rex for quite a while. Sounds more to me like Bang a Gong than like any other Hollies hit.

Thought Terry Stafford's version of "Suspicion" was Elvis...

Edit: As noted by others before

Technically, it is the Beach Boys singing back-up. IIRC They were credited as "The Fantastic Baggies" due to record company contracts.

The Fantastic Baggies were PF Sloan and Steve Barri

He eventually did cover it, although it remains officially unreleased.

Hi everyone! This is my first posting...

I was reading through a lot of these posts and nodding my head in recognition. The first time I heard "American Woman" by Krokus, I thought it was AC/DC.

Until recently I thought the song "Put Your Hand in the Hand" by a band called Ocean was by The Band.

I thought Johnny Mathis was on "Show & Tell", and not Al Wilson.

"Music To Watch Girls By". This is by the Bob Crewe Generation. I was absolutely CERTAIN this was done by Herb Alpert and Tijuana Brass.
