I haven't received mine yet, but held it in my hands at the store yesterday. Yes, I too was a bit disappointed how thin and small it is. Not really a box set, more like a bigger digi book or whatever those are called.

But it's still the music that counts, right?

I suggest getting rid of your copy immediately because of this.

Sorry if this has been addressed before, but the 4LP edition...is it the same versions from the original Fillmore East, or did they do the smart thing and fill all 4 sides with alternate versions? Not sure why I need this many versions of "Statesboro Blues" but one alternate Fillmore East LP might be an interesting listen.

It is mostly the same performances as the original album, then expanded with performances that weren't on that album. One exception is You Don't Love Me, which was an edit of 2 performances originally, while the new set has 1 complete performance.

What is the DR #? Is the CD and Blu-ray mastering different?

Meh. I just (finally) got a really nice original pressing of the original. Kind of reluctant to buy more LP's with the same stuff on them just for a few 'extra' things. This seems poorly thought out. The blu-ray sets look awesome, but are way more than I want to pay. I think I'm just getting too old to have time for multiple versions of the same songs from the same 48-hour period.

As long as the DR is not 7 or 8, I'm ok. I can accept 9 or 10, and 11 or 12 would be wonderful. This is the one and only band I can accept a bit of compression with. :)

It doesn't seem poorly thought out at all to me. The LP set is meant to be an "ultimate concert" document in its own right, not a companion to the original album.

It's also worth noting that the new mixes are used for all of the songs, not just those that weren't on the original album. So while some of the performances are the same, the mixes are not.

The hard bound book for the CD edition is much thinner than I had thought - how many pages does it have? Any cool pictures or new information?

Just saying, if we're only putting selections from the 6-CD set on a vinyl version, I would've done it as a companion, since anyone plunking down $$ for this probably has the original LP already.

I'd be down for 5.1 mixes, but I don't need $80 worth...just give me a really good version of each song and I'm good. I love hearing how the songs evolved through the years (and through different lineups)...there's some years and eras that are still really underrepresented by 'official' live things.

Not really as there is a normal type of menu screen. While the music is playing a slideshow of still pictures plays, but it does repeat fairly often during the listening session.

I just don't feel like getting burned $80.00 if the set sounds like the Deep Purple Made in Japan box.
