Some-one on some-thread some-where* recordmended "The Best of Pop & Wave" [diss-like the title BIG time tho] a 2 CD series w/one titlED "The 12" Mixes" [more titles listed in the OP below].
Got it & it's SQ is on par w/other '95 Sony digital output ['clean & clear' IMO]; from Steve many moons ago i learnED too appreciate when not all tracks on a comp have the same SQ.
Playing disc one on the road the night i got it, could immEDiately tell the diff mastering from T1. "Stay On These Roads" & T9. "Relax" ["New York Mix" for all you FGTH 12" mix "Relax" freaks].
D1T9. "Relax" had some of the best bass ever on the vehicle's soundsystem [some tracks on Barry Diament & Rob Fraboni Tuff Gong's 'Legend' ceedee quickly come too mind/butt not a ton more].

Plus, it's got this # which blew the top of my head off [NOT good while driving!]; one reason being i don't remember ever hearing it B4:

extendED my appreciation for 80's 12" EXTENDED mixes that's for sure!

New Order's "The Perfect Kiss", though I don't know if that can count. The 9 minute 12" version is the "real" song, the album and 7" versions are all horrid edits.

Anyone collect the Razormaid remixes? Some interesting remixes were done by them. A lot of stuff that was not officially remixed by the bands.

There's a great box called the 7th anniversary. It includes a fantastic remix of Kraftwerks "Telephone Call".

Not that radical of a difference as some dance mixes.

Unofficial remix but I like it...

This is quite nutty in some ways! :D Great one IMO; it's the b-side of the 12" single.

Plus The Damned's Eloise is really good - didn't know what to make of it at first, but it's a grower.

That's a cracking remix, but even better, and far sillier, is the 12" of Iggy's "Real Wild Child" which has all sorts of varispeed effects and goes all backwards at one point! Actually all the 12" mixes from Iggy's Blah-Blah-Blah are miracles of mid 80s remixing technology. Either absolutely terrific or appalling cheesy, depending on your personal taste.

However, my personal favourites are the 12" remixes of New Order's "Subculture" and the New York mix of the Psychedelic Furs' "Heartbeat". Utterly bonkers, but wonderfully good fun!

Yes, that fanmade version of "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" is amazing. One of the best 12 inches for me is Frankie's Young persons guide to the 12 inch.

I'm surprised no one's mention "The Re-Flex".... the 12" who's EDIT was one of Duran Duran's biggest US hits!

  19. I've been collecting as many of these on CD as possible over the last several months.
    The best in my opinion:

    1970's

Alicia Bridges - I Love The Nightlife
Kiss - I Was Made For Loving You

    1980's

Foreigner - I Want To Know What Love Is
Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Relax [the instrumental version on the B-side]
    S-Express - Theme From S-Express
    Timelords - Doctorin' The Tardis
Elton John - Heartache All Over The World
Communards - Don't Leave Me This Way

    1990's

Prince - Thieves In The Temple
Michael Jackson - Black Or White [Clivilles And Cole Remix]
Clivilles And Cole - Pride (In The Name Of Love)

    The Worst

Soft Cell - Tainted Love / Where Did Our Love Go? [8min 56sec version]

I have all of the above on CD either from singles or from the German "Maxi Power" compilations.

Pete Shelley's 'Homisapien' 12'. Most of the Simple Minds 12' mixes. Notably 'I Travel', 'The American', 'Speed Your Love To Me' and 'Up on the catwalk' improves on the album versions.

I was just listening to the 12" version of "Skin Deep"by The Stranglers the other day...thought I'd add it to the list; perhaps,it's 'coz the radio station I grew up with (WLIR) played it all the time, but I like it better than the original.
