Capitol Records is releasing these two new compilations in September. I think they're both up at Amazon, although no track details yet.

Will these be the equivalent of releasing best of albums on the Axis label in the 70s?

Best thing about the Icon CDs are they are pretty cheap, for the very casual fan.

What a snooze and a total money grab. Did anyone see Bobby Owsinski's list of deceased rock star income for 2013? John's name still makes the collective parties involved $24 million (George only $7 million, but ONLY $7 million!). I hate to think that John and his catalog would be reduced to such a ridiculous level.

It is all about the cash, though. Safe to say I will not be purchasing this.

He finally joins the ranks of Paul Abdul and The Captain and Tennille!

Someday Sir Paul may be an ICON too :)

Cream, The Who, Johnny Cash and other respected artists have these Icon CDs, not really a big deal.

Unfortunately, Ringo won't be signing any ICON comps.

Unlikely. Ringo will have a new studio album out soon, and his last two were released on cd AND vinyl. Plus 2015 will mark Lennon's would-be 75th. That anniversary seems unlikely to be passed over...

Almost everyone in this world knows John Lennon, but not everyone is crazy about collecting every Beatles related product, and many people don't own any Lennon CDs, so why not some more normal people to have the chance to get all Lennon biggest songs for cheap?

Good one. That song would have to be included if they ever released an ICON edition for Paul's tunes. Arnie

Some of the latest Icon releases have been simply repackages of older compilations with the Icon title slapped on the cover. Check out the Little River Band's entry in the series. It's just the same Greatest Hits comp with the lady in the swimming pool on the cover.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ringo's Icon disc is just a reissue of 'Blast From Your Past.'

Pretty good bet that a Capitol compilation will be all tracks from when he was on Capitol, which if I recall correctly was through Goodnight Vienna, the same period covered by Blast From Your Past, though they could certainly beef it up with more album tracks.

I'll bet that Lennons are just the 'Gimme Some Truth" compilation. 15 tracks.

Somehow I just don't think another Lennon comp is needed...
