For those of you who have Sting's Dream of the Blue Turtles on vinyl cut by Robert Ludwig, does the "RL Masterdisk" appear on only one side or both? Thanks for any input.

I check my copy I bought the week of release there is only a stamp of "MASTERDISK" on both sides, there's is a small EDP in a circle stamped next to the masterdisk on side one.

The "Love Somebody" single also has only the Masterdisk" stamped in caps on both sides. The "Fortress" single has the "Masterdisk" stamped in caps only on the Fortress side, and "RL" after it, done by hand.

    Hope this helps

Also, it should be on Quiex vinyl. Hold it up to a light. It should be transparent brown.

Yeah. A lot of the bigger bands on A&M at the time were pressed on either Quiex (brown) or KC-600 (purple) vinyl. Synchronicity, Dream of the Blue Turtles, Supertramp-Famous Last Words, Roger Hodgson-Eye of the Storm, Kilroy Was Here, Reckless, some Herb Alpert, etc. Many first pressings of these titles and some others were on premium vinyl as stock.

If you have any of those titles on black vinyl, more than likely, they are either represses or record club issues.

    My Canadian pressing is:

Side 1: SP-#3750-A'INT-1 MASTERDISK RL CR EDP
Side 2: CR SP-3750-B-INT-1 EDP MASTERDISK

On both sides there is also "MI" so faint it is almost unreadable ... whilst trying to read this I also realised my copy is in not so great condition!

Checked 16 copies of this. Of the 16 lp's I have, only 2 have "RL" on both sides. One of which is a promo. Hope this helps.

I checked the copy I inherited from a former housemate and it is from the Columbia House club.

I just picked one up with MASTERDISK stamped on both sides and RL on side one but not on side two. Is that common?

I believe it was not uncommon for Bob Ludwig to omit his initials on some sides that he cut in the late 70s and 80s. However I can't speak to this LP specifically.

Look at the handwriting...does it look the same on both sides?

I had one of those but I'm wondering if I gave it to my brother! I do know it was purchased right when it was released.

I only now have a UK press, I believe. I recall having both and preferring it. I haven't played it in a long while.
