She was Prince's bass player for a few years. She is solid - and funky.

Yep, and very pleasant to meet in person. I told her I played guitar, and we talked about Canada as she's from Nova Scotia.
We compared hands, when I told her I don't play bass because of small fingers, and sure enough, they were the same size as mine, lol.

"No excuses now", she said with a wicked grin.
Beautiful fun lady, and a terrific bassist with strong vocals.

I got all excited after reading this thread, but somehow they're managing to miss my area completely. Multiple shows in GA, FL, MD, NJ.... nothing in NC or VA....odd. ZZ always seemed to draw well here the couple of time I've seen them.

ZZ Top were outstanding! Comparing the last 2 shows that I've seen, this is the finest the Texas trio has sounded in years.

The reason they sounded so good? Billy Gibbons. While the playing is always good, the strength of his vocals was the key to the performance on Sunday. He sounds stronger vocally than I have heard in a long time.

Always a short tight set, this one was no exception. Clocking in at about 1 hour and 20 minutes, here is the set list:

    1. Under Pressure
    2. Waitin For The Bus
    3. Jesus Just Left Chi.
    4. Gimme All Your Lovin'
    5. Pincushion
    6. Gotsta Get Paid
    7. Flyin High
    8. Foxy Lady (Hendrix Cover)
    9. Catfish Blues (Muddy Waters cover)
    10. My Heads In Mississippi
    11. Chartreuse
    12. Sharp Dressed Man
    13. Legs

    Encore with Jeff Beck:

    1. La Grange/Sloppy Drunk Jam
    2. Tush
    3. Jailhouse Rock (Elvis)

Agree completely that Jeff Beck was/is in top form. I was surprised that the length of his set was at least as long as the ZZ Top headlining set. It is very difficult to believe this guy is 70. He just "feels" about the youngest 70 years old in rock.

It was an extremely hot evening with high humidity. The lightning had quite an effect in the background. I thought we were pretty lucky to not get but a bit of a mist and a few drops and no hard rain.

While Jeff Beck and his band were great, and I enjoyed his performance as much as the 6 or 7 other times I've seen him....... ZZ Top was the draw for me. I'll admit that I get a bit antsy after an hour or so of an instrumental only performance. One thing I didn't expect was Jeff to introduce a singer (I don't know the name) prior to "Morning Dew." Rod Stewart is one of my music heroes, and the reason I'm a Jeff Beck fan at all. However, he introduced the singer and "Morning Dew" on Sunday with....."This is what the Jeff Beck Group would have sounded like if we had a *real* singer........" A definite and unnecessary jab at Rod.

ZZ Top were tremendous and proved they could still bring the goods. I was thoroughly impressed by the entire set, but was surprised at how much I enjoyed the Eliminator hits. Twenty years ago I probably viewed the Eliminator, Afterburner, Recycler, etc.....stuff as commercial sell out ZZ Top stuff. Sunday night, those tunes were the finest example of the tremendous range and great songwriting ability of this band. The vocal harmony of these three on a Gimme All Your Lovin' was fantastic....no background singers, just the three dudes from Texas. A helluva night :)

I was enjoying the new ZZ Top Blu-Ray Live At Montreux 2013 over the weekend. It has a similar set list.

According to the Rolling Stone interview, it is. Clanceman - ZZ played 80 minutes? Trust me, that is a long set for them. I saw shows with them in the past that including the encore the time was barely over an hour. Just wish Beck was doing more than an hour.

  16. Have tix for a ZZ top show in Oct. No opener announced.
Fingers crossed that JB continues on the tour.

He's been doing a Mahavishnu cover for awhile, before 'You Know You Know' it was 'Eternity's Breath'

It was 80 min. Yes, I've seen a few minutes shorter, and a full hour and a half in the past by them.

Jeff Beck's set was over an hour....it was 70-80 min.

Glad to see that Jeff is playing a longer set. The hour I mentioned was in reference to what he said in Rolling Stone.
