I am thinking about picking up one of these available where I am. I will be changing out the cartridge. My question is about the general performance of these tables compared to modern day tables in my budget, specifically the tone arms. Is the arm comparable to performance to the arm you would find on a modern day Rega or Project table?

The general consensus is that Thorens stock arms aren't as good as found on modern rigs like on a Rega or Project - although I've never found mine to be lacking in any way.

    I love my TD-145. Never a problem.

If the auto-shut off function is working, I would not replace the arm. Those are pretty desirable in working state. The stock arm is no slouch, just needs to be paired with a high compliant cartridge. Ortofon still offers the OM-series. Put an OM-20 or 30 on there, and you'll be happy.

The non-auto-shut off Thorens are a blast to modify...I'd suggest picking up one of those if you want a project.
