Quartet No. 3 today. The entire set is very well played and recorded.

I bought this non-hybrid SACD a while back, at a time when I was not too familiar with hybrid vs. non-hybrid. This SACD turned out to be non-hybrid and I was not able to play it until I bought my first universal player a few years ago ...

Yes. I have been buying these APR releases (as CD-quality FLAC downloads from Hyperion, including the complete liner notes as a PDF) and it's precisely these three fellows, Marston, Obert-Thorn, and Winner who have been doing the transfers. I think Winner is a bit more interventionist than he used to be (back when he did those Schnabels for Pearl) and that may be because he has his own CEDAR gear, which he's become highly skilled in using. The new Gieseking set is top-notch and it's largely rare and unreleased material.

Did you like it after you were able to play it?

I enjoyed this CD when I added it to my collection last year. She is a wonderful harpsichordist. Her WTC I & II are quite nice as well ...

I enjoyed it but really need to re-listen. Incidentally, this is also the only Thielemann's recording I have. IIRC, he was some kind of personal assistant to Karajan at the BPO ...

I have a good number CD's under Naxos Historical which were reconstructed/remastered by Ward Marston and MOT. Excellent sound and great values ...

One of my biggest regrets is selling off my Couperin Sets of Blandine Verlet, François and Louis both. She is pretty much unapproachable as a harpsichord player. The Astree productions of real Original instruments are wonderful.

Were you in some recording sessions with Blandine Verlet?

Nope, sorry. I'm not sure how active she is as a performing musicians.

You mentioned Blandine Verlet is unapproachable so I thought you did a recording session with her ...

Unsurpassable? Most harpsichordists I did record were socially adroit.

It was such a treat going to real brick and mortar stores (Amoeba and Rasputin's) in the San Francisco Bay today! I picked up these goodies:

On the other hand, I would place pianists in a similar category to oboists and french horn players, potential trouble:shh:

I always hit up "Escape from New York" Pizza when I go to Amoeba San Francisco. The Classical LP section at Amoeba is about as good as it gets right now. Makes me long for the days of Vogue Records in Westwood, near UCLA. Rows of Japanese imports, walls of bootleg opera.

Do you know, is she any relation to the Belgian coloratura soprano Alice Verlet, who recorded extensively for Edison?

I have this Brandenburg Concertos set by Karajan/BPO. There is a DG twofer but I am not sure if that is related to this set. There is also a live recording made in Italy. At any rate, Brandenburg Concertos by Karajan/BPO is never my go-to recording for such works ...

I get tired of the scrawny ancient instruments sometimes, so this disc provides Bach with some meat on his bones!:)
