That would be nice, but I am still skeptical given the new catalog numbers and lower price. Time will tell (unless they are all canceled due to a lack of pre-orders ;)).

Yeah, it seems very unlikely they will go back to the printers to run off 15 sleeves for Johnny Barleycorn Must Die. That would cost more than they would make on the sale.

I doubt they have stockpiled a bunch of finished discs. The reissues have new catalog numbers. The earlier discs would not have matching catalog numbers. It would be atypical of a Japanese release to mix-and-match.

Keith, Does cdjapan charge the credit card right away on pre-orders or does it wait until the item is available before charging the credit card?

I hear ya, but that still begs the question of how Universal feel they are capable of releasing 100 different titles on the same day, given the supposed shortage of pressing capacity. If these are new pressings, it may indeed be the case that less popular titles are cancelled depending on their pre-order figures. I can foresee half of these titles getting canned, especially given that some of them are still available as first pressings from the likes of CDJapan...

They charge your credit card when they ship. Paypal payments are instant.

When were they ever 6000Yen? The highest price I have seen them was 4286Yen. So 3500yen represents a 21% discount.

But you have to factor shipping into the discount price too. Don't you?
Which makes the discount even less than 21%.
Anyway shipping for me was around 500Yen for 1 SACD, not 1800yen.

Good point! 100 SACDs from the same label on the same day. Unheard of! However, why didn't they sell these at regular price, instead of listing them as OOP?

Maybe, Keith is right about a packaging down grade. I remember some old DCC titles coming out in a plain jewel case with no artwork or printing.

Something else to note - no Black Sabbath in these re-releases (although all 6 are out of print).

    Wave 2, perhaps?

Does anyone feel like giving me a top 5-10 rock sacd's based on quality /rarity :)

Was going to get the 'blow by blow' reissue and can add some other titles. Was thinking 'exile' and 'some girls' from the stones, 'who's next', 'goodbye yellow brick road' and 'tubular bells'. any other recommendations?

(i'd read some negative comments on 'synchronicity' which put me off buying my fave police album)

    ta!

i'd pass on Some Girls, the one mis-step in the SACD series.

  19. I'm a little perturbed that I paid ten dollars more per disc thru CDJapan, but that's life!

For us US buyers the rate of dollar to yen is the best it's been in a long time making this an even better deal!

Hey it's an excuse to use w the wife when she asks "was that necessary"?

Honestly fellows, as the idiot who has bought every one of these on first issue, I find it aggravating. Sorry, but there it is.

These are single layer discs, so can easily be pressed on any standard DVD-5 line. Since they were made in small numbers, they may already have stampers ready to go. If not, the glass mastering stage requires a special formatter to be inserted to handle the disc encryption. Other than that, it's all standard DVD production.

It is hybrid disc manufacturing that is limited, since that requires a special hybrid CD and DVD line.

  24. Keith, what is you opinion on the Bill Evans titles? I didn't purchase many of the jazz titles but at this price it may be time.
