I like the idea of hearing a potentially remastered Live Alive and having an officially released CD of the El Mocambo show, but all of this is a rehashing of previously released material that any SRV enthusiast will have. Hard to justify repurchasing this material.

I'd prefer to see the long-rumored Legacy Edition of Soul To Soul release come to fruition, or a complete release of the 1984 Carnegie Hall concert. Oh well....

I guess discs 11 & 12 are sort of a Deluxe Edition of The Sky Is Crying lp which in my opinion is one of his best. I noticed that they did not include Taxman or Pipeline w/Dick Dale the rarities from the Greatest Hits discs.

It's about time we got another SRV box.

  5. Hopefully the El Mo show will get a stand alone release in 6 months or something....

What happened to the Soul To Soul Legacy Edition? Was it cancelled as I was wondering about it the other day?

They also did not release the complete show that is on In The Beginning. I have a bootleg of the show with additional songs.

I hope that they don't brickwall it.

Nice to see "Life Without You" on Live Alive. The original CD didn't have it (although the LP did).

No SRV collection would be complete without Family Style, but I guess they don't consider that a straight SRV album.

I was thinking only yesterday, 24 years after his death, that we haven't seen any new SRV archive material for a while. I refuse to buy the rest of the stuff again though.

Yeah, it would make sense if the pending Soul To Soul release contained a lot of studio outtake material because a lot of recording took place during those sessions. A lot of it has been booted over the years, and there is some very strong and interesting performances on those reels.

I also agree that "In The Beginning" should have been expanded for this release; that is a smokin' hot late-70's SRV club gig with some really dynamic blues playing. The perfect snapshot of when SRV was a straight-up bluesman laying down licks in small clubs. Hopefully it happens one day, but this was the perfect opportunity.

Like I had mentioned earlier in the thread, it is nice to see Live Alive being potentially remastered for this set, but at the same time, it is pretty ragged album. There is a lot more superior live material in the SRV vaults that should be released.

Additionally, I agree that Family Style should be here. Various FS tracks have graced other SRV collections and it is clearly associated with his body of work.

In general, I find the SRV catalogue management pretty underwhelming. The archival releases have been okay in that they do often offer some nice vault tracks, but they also seem quite lacking in content and track selection. Almost every release has had legitimate issues plaguing the overall concept. This set is another missed opportunity on a handful of levels.

Again, it is hard to justify repurchasing the material once again, but if the price ends up being cheap at some point, it may be worth it if the material has been newly remastered in a positive way.

That is the least of its problems; it was a misguided creative decision to edit out 4 very strong blues tracks/covers from the concert's set-list.
