How can use iPhone to play songs stored in iTunes folder on Hard Drive?

I ripped my albums using iTunes (in AAC format) on to a hard drive. I'd like to be able to play these songs using my iPhone (so that I can use Airplay to send them to my stereo). Is this possible? Thanks.

 

If you're using a Mac for iTunes, you can download Apple's Remote app and control playback from your Mac and send the sound via Airplay to your stereo. I don't know if this works using a PC.

The Remote app is for the iPhone, to be clear. It might connect to iTunes for Windows; I've never tried it, but it's worth a shot.
