I just got finished watching Chinatown again. I haven't seen it in ages...what a great movie. I forgot how utterly depressing the ending was though, yikes!

Depressing as the ending is, i wouldn't change a thing. It's one of the reasons the movie stays with you long afterwards, also Jack getting a ''nose job'' from none other than Roman Polanski, i still have trouble watching that scene.

I felt bad about not including a title by Kubrick, but his body of work is so significant that I find it difficult to choose just one. I was also tempted to include the film in my avatar (Performance), but I think it should remain one of those films that has little middle ground for viewers. Ken Russell also looms large in my mind, as Women In Love, The Music Lovers, and The Devils are all three remarkable films.

I like reading these lists because I have movies that make me think "No one could possible like that movie as much as me..." and then I see it in someone's top ten list and go, "Alright!" :)

On that note, here are my ten picked from other people's lists in this thread, using films I loved but didn't think they would appear.

    Ice Station Zebra
The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou
    Apocalypse Now
    Pulp Fiction
    The Tree of Life
    The General
    Rosemary's Baby
    Jaws
    There Will Be Blood
The Searchers (well, yeah, the searchers should be here).

I also love this thread because of all the script development meetings I had to sit through and be told I HAD TO HAVE A STRONG LOVE STORY. Fock that! Look at these lists. How many have a goddurn corny, cliche love story as a major element? ALMOST NONE! Gdamn hollywood development execs!

I can't believe I left off Dr. Strangelove. It's too hard coming up with just ten. I would have to add Miller's Crossing and The Big Lebowski to my list .

I'll see you at the opera tonight. I'll hold your seat till you get there. After you get there you're on your own.

I could dance with you till the cows come home...But I would rather dance with the cows till you come home.

Remember, you're fighting for this woman's honour, which is probably more than she ever did.

I've got a good mind to go out and join a club and beat you over the head with it.

I can see you standing over a hot stove, but I can't see the stove.
