Would think Abbey Road would benefit from a 5.1 mix.

Yes, it's high time. Just listen to the "Love" DVD-A. Abbey Road would benefit tremendously from a 5.1 mix.

It s time to paint a moustache on Mona Lisa or put coöour on the old black and white masterpieces. Would be swell.
In all honesty- the Beatles output is perfect the way it is. No need to alter perfection. I am apply -that the Beatles so far-have resisted most of these gimmicks to sell products. The Love production is one thing-it s a show using their music. But to remix their albums for me is a very bad idea. They are perfect as they are.

Are you referring to the mono mixes or the gimmicky stereo mixes?

    Great! Listen to them then.
Big demand for 5.1 at the moment, it wont be long..till a Beatles album gets a 5.1 mix released on blu ray music disc.

No, 5.1 audio in the mainstream died a long time ago, in the UK, in fact in never got started.
    How about 24/88 Mono Flacs?

I think it's time for a sub-forum dedicated to the Beatles

Imho Abbey road might be one of the best popalbims ever recordef. That goes for the sound of it as well. I have no doubts a remox5.1 would sounds great. But nothing can sound better than the way it is. I have a 5.1 mix if Pet Sounds. It sounds spectacular but it puts me further away from the music. So I never listen to it.

    Agree with you and disagree.
Everybody has different taste. The Beatles albums in catalogue have been the same for fifty years( give or take)..imo a few titles would be interesting in 5.1!

Don't forget that appart from "Abbey Road", most of the Beatles multitracks are 4-tracks only. Kinda hard to create a 5.1 mix out of that. Although it has been done on the official DVDs*, it's mostly "fake surround" reverb that come out of the back speakers.
    So don't expect Steven Wilson's Yes-like 5.1 mixes with the Beatles' music ! :)

*"Help", "Magical mystery tour", "Yellow submarine" and the whole "Anthology" DVD series contains A LOT of Beatles songs in 5.1.

    Remastering is fine for me
Remixes however changes the soundscape, the instrumentation and the balancr. Don t see any point in changing those things regarding say Abbey Road. A general rule is that one should not fix something that s ont broken.Or alter history. Call me conservative but why alter perfection- or unperfection for that matter. Some things just should be left the way. They are

A surround mix would not destroy the original masters and make every stereo mix disappear from this world. It's not a change, it's an addition. And no one will be forced to buy it.
