78 minutes of sublime music, beautifully played and recorded. (Mine is on disc, not ripped...) :)

Still the best sounding mastering of the best performance of the 24 Preludes, IMO.

The more I hear Arrau, the more I adore his pianism. I have the Haitink equivalent of the CD you posted. Enjoy!

Thanks for the idea, but right now I'm taking it slow with classical. Right now I just look for classical in the wild. Can't beat the good RCA Living Stereo, MLP, and others CDs for like $.50 cents to $5 that I keep seeing as of late.

I did pre-order it a few weeks ago. But now Amazon UK has sent an email apologizing for not being able to supply a release date; they didn't cancel the order though.

For those who like minimalism, this is a great album I'm listening to for the first time. Didgeridoo and organ are a great combination.

It's still listed on Amazon UK but with a strange title. It's also currently listed on amazon.de. Hopefully the Amazon UK listing will reemerge.

Very intense performances and excellent sound--too bad it's not SACD like most Praga recordings.

That's been in my wish list since it came out. I'm not sure why I haven't bought it yet

Such a great $1 CD find, sounds quite good from a digital recording in the late 70s. And it was in the smooth case too.

Boulez is not a conductor I associate with Mahler. How is it?

Wish I could hear it in surround.

Boulez recorded the complete Mahler symphonies with various orchestras for DG in a way that is characteristic of him, objective and analytic. In my view he's the total opposite of, say, Bernstein. Some find his interpretations too objective and devoid of all emotion, especially the 5th.

I still have several Telarc CDs from that era.

Boulez executes with strict tempo controll (to me a revelation espec in the Adagietto), bringing to light a lot of details...

Just a quick question from a classical novice, but it may not have a quick answer ......

Before starting to delve a little deeper into classical music, Herbert Von Karajan was the the most visible, identifiable conductor I was aware of.
Even if you didn't know much about the classical music world, you seemed to know who he was.
As I make my way around the net, reading different things, it seems that he's met with a lot of indifference these days.
Pick an adjective and it's been used, and much of it seems unfavorable.
So, as I come to his career after the fact, is it now cool to tear him down or something ?
Was he overrated, over-hyped as I frequently read ?
How can I guy who was so visible for so long, seem to be getting " found out " as not worthy of the praise ?
Just after a little guidance is all ........

Early morning - just getting my coffee, or I would have recalled that I actually saw Boulez conduct Mahler's Second at Carnegie about 5 years ago. It's the only time I've seen it in performance. And for such a work, comparisons with recordings are unfair. But I liked it.

Wow, thanks for the heads up. Haven't listened to that one and will definitively check it out. This one's been my favorite so far:
