    R.I.P.

I always liked Survivor. I saw them open for Styx/REO Speedwagon over a decade ago. I was in Cincinnati three weeks ago and saw they were going to open for Boston a few days later at the casino there. I was unable to go to that show but I figured I would see them again some other time. But, I guess you never know.

What a way to go for a musician!

He was a great vocalist. Saw him once with Survivor many years ago.

That's not true. His son found him dead at his home at 1:00 in the morning.

One of my favorite 80s childhood bands. Still listen to Vital Signs once in a while and like others here, loved his voice.

    You will be missed.

Sad news, Too Hot to Sleep is a fantastic album.
I found out from the headline "Baywatch singer found dead"

I agree about Too Hot To Sleep. Fantastic album that went virtually unnoticed. "She's A Star" has one of the heaviest, and is one of my favorite riffs that Frankie Sullivan ever laid down. Jimi's singing was too notch on it, too, as always.

I thought I was the only person in the world who loved Too Hot To Sleep! Mickey Curry's drumming helps the great songs and production...

Anyway, sad that Jimi went so young, although I thought he wasn't 60 yet...

In addition to his other accolades, I'm pretty sure he did the singing on the Bud Light "Real Men of Genius" radio spots. That made it extra funny. RIP.

Agree 100% The title track and especially "Desperate Dreams" are two of my all time favorite Survivor tunes.

I think he was referring to the debacle (i.e. turmoil) within the band during the recording process...you can read Jimi's account here:

:( Growing up in the 80s, I have happy memories of their music. Good, melodic, feel good music. Brings back memories of a better time in life. RIP

I saw them at a small bar in the early 90s. I remember I called the bar to make sure it was really them and if Jamison was with the band. They took up half the place and the other half was a handful of fans. Not sure why they played there, perhaps lean times. In any case, incredible show.

I must say I am saddened by this....although I consider myself a power-pop fan, and normally not a fan of bands like Survivor, they did release some great tunes that ventured into the power pop area and I always enjoyed many of their tunes. Sad to see him pass so young.....Rest in peace Jimi....

Wow. Sounds as if there may be one person in particular who may not be so sad at his passing. Add in a little foul play and this interview would make a great foundation for a Columbo movie.

That reminds me of the gig they did at the village of Esbeek, Holland, somewhere in the second half of the 90s. Me and a friend of mine, who are both huge Survivor fans, couldn't believe it when we heard that Survivor would play at what appeared some kind of students' party. So we called up the venue to make sure that it was them. It was them for sure and the band (with stand-ins for Jim Peterik and Marc Droubay IIRC) performed a great show for an audience of mostly adults that were too young to really have experienced the band in their prime. They mostly didn't care for whatever band played in the background of their party and the crowd reaction was underwhelming, to say the least. Nevertheless, Jimi obviously impressed the girls, so many of them showed up for the signature session afterwards. Jimi looked kind of boring until we showed up and asked him to sign the booklets of several Survivor discs that we brought along, including the one of his first solo album. His face brightened and he complimented us for being 'real fans', which must have brought a nice change of pace for him at the time.

Good memories of the band and their music. Thanks for everything you gave us. R.I.P. Jimi.
