Thanks a lot! I'm not expecting a replacement, but hopefully now that they're aware of this problem (which occured on the Benefit DVD as well) it will be safe to buy future DVD-As.

The DVDA is a million times better than the AF SACD. I can't decide if I like the original Master better than the Steven Wilson remix. The original is incredible in this format at 24/96. Just powerful. The bass and impact are stunning. More after I listen to SW mix more. This DVDA is the definitive issue for Close to the Edge.

The definitive version would be the Blu-Ray as the DVD-A has the stereo remix incorrectly at 16bit/96kHz (see above).

I'm not seeing the SW remix as 16 but 24/96 reading out of my DVD extractor.

Yep it is 16bit padded in a 24bit container. So it appears like a 24bit file but all it contains is really 16bit resolution. No one knows how it happened yet.

This is only for the stereo remix on the DVD-A.

OK. So I have on my DVDA an MLP 24/96 version at 37:52 and does't have metadata to tell which version (Wilson, or Flat it is), and LPCM versions SW at 38:05 and Flat at 37:50? I just took delivery on this so I'm sure it's too much to hope they've fixed the issue. What do I use to find out the 16 bit version.

I contacted Panegyric and Lisa from Co. told me to check who I bought it from and that I was mistaken about the 16 bit vs 24. I sent back a reply and I'll report back.

Sorry about the delay. The remix is 37:50-52.

You need a bit-meter to check the resolution. There are some available with a graphic interface in mastering suites.

The word probably hasn't got to them yet. Neil Wilkes who authored the disc will look into it when he has the time.

We are investigating the Copy Protection theory. It plausible knowing the bonus tracks on the Benefit DVD-V had the same problem but were authored by different people. Stay tuned.

Is there any news regarding the 16-bit authoring error? Any plans for a replacement campaign?

No news. It could be a software-based error, the actual "hardware" players might read the stream as true 24bit.

    Don't think so.

I also don't think so. Anyway, any risk is worthless since there's also the errorless Blu-ray version, which I'm planning to buy at this point (albeit I would rather prefer a DVD copy due to a more user-friendly playback routine).

Seriously, a replacement campaign? Unfortunately I'd give this about a 0.000001% chance of ever happening. Production errors only ever get fixed in major releases with huge audiences. This is neither. And since nobody would have ever even had a clue that there was a mistake were people with mastering tools not analyzing the data, and reporting the issue, the chances of somebody will actually fix it are about 1000 times less.
