There was a record fair here in Edinburgh yesterday so i wandered down for a rummage and picked up the following. I had both the Maiden and Pistols LPs once upon a time but somehow mislaid them... Both were pretty trashed anyway – I got the Maiden when i was about 10 years old and played it to death on an old Fidelity mono turntable - the one like a little red suitcase!

Anyway, the Maiden was a tenner and the others were £5 each. The Warriors is in great condition and sounds amazing - really jumps out the speakers. The rest all needed a clean but after that sounded great as well with no clicks or pops. The Pistols is V2086 with the blue labels. Well chuffed!

Found this not long ago, Balinese music recorded on site in the early 70s.
The record is fairly close, in some ways, to the "Golden Rain" Nonesuch LP more familiar to American audiences : there's a bit of Ketjak (the monkey dance) in there, but the gamelan music proper is very different. This isn't the virtuoso 20th century Kebyar style invented to astonish the tourists, but the slower, ceremonial music. Amazing stuff. Sounds great too.
There's also a gatefold with liner notes (folk tales about witches are included !) and drawings of the instruments. The engineer talks about crossing the island on bicycle at the night and hearing music from afar as his compass. Love for the people and culture of Bali is evident throughout. Great find, this.

I'll say. It caught me by surprise. The place I buy from usually prices the gold discs as their silver counterparts.

CDs from the past few weeks. Took a break from buying every weekend as I have a lot of box sets on pre order that are going to set me back (looking at you Dylan, Harrison, Billy Corgan). But my recent Vegas vacation yielded a few early pressings/rarities.

    Vegas
EC - Slowhand WG RSO 10 track version 2.99 (played it driving home and it sounded like a vinyl pressing)
    EC - 461 Ocean WG RSO 2.99
Peter Gabriel - Security WG Target (my only 3rd Target found in the wild!) 2.99
Pink Floyd - Great Dance songs $0.00 (buy 3 used get one free)
Frank Black Francis 1.99 (demos are interesting but the remakes are not)
Stone Temple Pilots - Core DVD-A 9.99 looking forward to listening to this for the 5.1. Says enhanced resolution but doesn't note rate--will need to read up on this.
Pearl Jam - Ten UK Limited 1.99 rare with bonus tracks?

    LA
Pixies - trompe le monde 0.99
Dire Straits - Making Movies Vertigo red swirl 1.99 now only S/T and my DS discography is complete.
Pink Floyd - Take it back 1.99
    Roger Water Berlin Live 3.00
Stones - Aftermath UK SACD 5.99
    Pearl Jam - Twenty 5.99

Ebay Pink Floyd 2 separate lots - about $5 each
Wish you were here JP for US 2 track
Wish you were here capital pressing - probably will trade it in
Delicate sound of thunder first pressing
Dark side Capitol pressing (11th) - probably will trade it
High hopes UK single with postcards

One of the local stores is having a "Sidewalk Sale". Just happened to catch it the first day.

Spent a couple of hours sorting through numerous boxes of 45's. I ended up walking out with 39 records. Most were a bit dusty but all in excellent or better condition. I felt pretty good thinking they were only $.50 each...I felt even better when the owner told me the new sign wasn't up and they were 3 for a $1. :agree:

    I'll be going back.

The Barry Lyndon is Japanese pressed. Gruppo Sportivo has an EP also. There is an extra picture sleeve for the EP in the album jacket. If anybody wants it let me know. The Roy Wood had some bizarre "protection art" whereby someone carefully cut the shrink wrap and then taped it to the cover all around. The outer cover was unaffected but the inside gatefold has tape residue all around the edges. Since whoever did this at least preserved the sticker I used a blow-dryer to separate it from the shrink and glued it on the cover.

  22. I didn't get a chance to listen yet (work, kids). I'll wake up the neighbourhood tomorrow morning :D.

Found a briefcase type of cassette carrying case and a smaller plastic carrying case with cassettes at a yard sale, full of original prerecorded cassettes: Beatles, Lennon, Harrison, Floyd, Tull, KISS, Neil Young, Dylan, Moody Blues, others.

Tons of good music, all for $1.00. So far, all play beautifully!

Also, on vacation last week, I found an original pressing of The Beatles Song Book on Capitol in a Goodwill shop in Fell's Point, Md. $1.00 for that, too!
