I see that Elton's on the list, so "Tiny Dancer" may live! Too bad about the Pink Floyd, though.

Why would someone not want their song on this ??

What is weird is some artists are on this set that, for one reason or another, did make the 'Wonder Years' DVD set.

Could be artistic reasons, monetary reasons, licensing reasons...we covered some of the reasons earlier in the thread.

Shouldn't someone like Pink Floyd be happy that there song is in a Funny scene like that

    Or whoever owns it

Isn't it also free advertising ?

    Woops! Yes, sorry about that.

What is weird is some artists are on this set, and for one reason or another, did NOT make the 'Wonder Years' DVD set.

If they can't use Pink Floyd's "Dogs", then why not use this song from one of the artists who is listed in Shout's list:

  14. Well, I guess if you needed one more reason to punch out Roger Waters or Glen Frey, here you go. :)

It's interesting that the Wonder Years couldn't get the Doors or Neil Young, but they made it on here....

No Pink does suck...but I'm leaning towards a "buy". What would make this go down a tiny bit smoother for me would be if they actually took some care in making the generic replacement music match the feel of the songs they're replacing. What would it cost them to get one of those "soundalike" or karaoke music studios to create instrumental replicas that are just a note or two off-kilter?

It doesn't work that way. A note or two will not fundamentally change melody or chord structure. There have been plagiarism cases where they thought this dodge would work, and it did not.

  18. Shout! did a lot of sound alike stuff on the SCTV box sets.

  19. I'm very happy to see a lot of the music has been cleared, now if we can only get confirmation from them that these will be the original non syndicated versions...

Has Shout ever used syndicated versions?

  22. I don't think so..which bodes well for this release.

With all the effort expended on music licensing they aren't going to put these out with syndication cuts. What could be the cost saving there compared with music rights?

    Awesome, Myke. Thanks.

Some odd things going on there, like: "Arrow Through Me" is in, but "Every Night" is out? (Both are McCartney songs/performances.)
