  1. No they don't. They have good graphics.

The packaging.... is terrible. I have them and spare me the broken digipaks and shredded, bent, and scratched paper folders. And scratched discs. But that's how Rush decides to sell physical media (CD, DVD, BD) these days...

Throw in compressed audio and I'll pass.

A live version of Limbo? It's my favorite Rush instrumental, so this bonus disc seems mighty tempting. I have all the DVD's and none of the Blu-ray's, so getting the latter box would be logical choice. BUT, there are some factors that are holding me back:

    1.
My brother always hogs the only Blu-ray player we have (PlayStation 4), and he never lets me use it.
1.b. And he absolutely HATES Rush, (apparently just because "They're gross and ugly, which means their music is also gross and ugly! ":biglaugh::cussing::shake:. How does he expect to get anywhere with that mentality? In other words; if exposed to anything Rush-related, he'll (get really mad at me/attempt to hurt me (it's a sibling thing so don't worry)/make a stupid, but funny comment about their "grossness"/whatever).
    2. Even if I did use the Blu-rays behind his back, we don't have a sound system downstairs.
    2.b
There are some Bluetooth GTAV headphones to use with the PS4, but my brother hogs them too. Why? Because he thinks "Little Devin might break them".
    3. I don't know how to hook up regular headphones to an HDTV, nor do I feel like doing that.

So I guess I'll sell the DVD's I already have and get the DVD box set.

I think it's pretty lame to do it this way, but since I've never bought any of the Rush blu-rays, I might pick this up somewhere down the line. Not sure how much latter-day live Rush I really need though...wish the effort was spent on upgrading the 1980's live videos to full concerts instead of stuff like this, but that's just me.

I have most of these releases already on Blu-ray but if the audio was remastered from the ground up (guitar is way down in the mix) on the last Clockwork Angels tour release, I would be tempted to double dip (and sell my singles on eBay).

It's a real shame; some of the best live music ever and it sounds atrocious.

Ditto for me. I don't have a blu-ray player so no incentive to upgrade the media either.

I just hope the bonus thing comes out on DVD separately. I'd buy that, but not a complete video set I already have.

Alex Lifeson Looks Back on Previously Unreleased Performances in Rush’s ‘R40′ Box
by Jeff Giles November 3, 2014 10:58 AM

Rush have made an awful lot of music over the years, so it’s no surprise that guitarist Alex Lifeson doesn’t have the sharpest recollection of the early unreleased performances the band unearthed for its new ‘R40‘ box set, which comes out Nov. 10.

In fact, during an interview with Radio.com, Lifeson admitted he’d completely forgotten the archival track ‘I’ve Been Runnin’,’ saying, “That one was really lost to me. But it was a shuffle-y, Delta bluesy kind of song that we were inspired by via Led Zeppelin.”

That’s a far cry from the more progressive vein the band moved into after original drummer John Rutsey left and was replaced by Neil Peart, and Lifeson pointed out that the shift in direction wasn’t an accident of timing. “Geddy [Lee] and I were both leaning towards that kind of music, we loved what Yes was doing, and Jethro Tull, and of course we were big Pink Floyd fans,” Liefson recalled.

“But John was a strong influence in the band and he was a real basic rocker. That was part of the reason for him leaving. There were other reasons: his health. But really when it came right down to it, he was a sort of Bad Company kind of rocker, and Ged and I wanted to move into something that was a bit meatier in terms of arrangements and performance.”

Those early efforts to find a sound would doubtless prove fascinating to longtime fans, but apart from what’s been dug up for ‘R40,’ Lifeson isn’t sure how many others exist. “There might be some tapes lying around, but I can’t imagine what sort of shape they’re in, 40-plus years later,” he admitted. “We never thought about hanging on to that stuff back then. You think of something new and you say, ‘Forget about that old crap.’”

I am a big fan of RUSH and pretty much have all their regular releases in one form or another. I have seen them live numerous times since the 80's. I use to purchase everything including all the Neil Peart books. However, I have to be honest. I'm now really bored with RUSH releases. The new Blu Ray set is a repackage with one extra bonus disk. Big deal. RiR on blu Ray will yield no improvement. And I think most of us agree Alex cannot mix. Also, Neil's last Book was a repackage of his online diary (ripoff). But yet all the fanboys will fork over the cash. I really do not blame the band. if I could save my turds, wrap in shrink-wrap and sell for cash, I would. I'll pass on this one

The best buy dvd contains stuff that is missing from the dvd and bluray sets. For some reason the dvd set has some stuff that the bluray set doesn't have and viceversa! Very annoying for me as I now have to get a freinds brother in law who lives in teh states to get it for me so I don't pay the crazy Ebay prices,

When we will have a remastered Exit... Stage Left on high-def? Come on, it's one of the best shows of all time (that Xanadu version alone is enough proof) and we have a badly edited VHS-looking dvd... The audio is good but the video is in really bad shape. I believe that it can be transferred to HD (not sure it's film but looks like) so it's time for Eagle Rock to get their hands in this material and come up with a definitive testament of the marvelous Moving Pictures tour.

If the audio mastering follows the same suit as their recent blu rays, don't expect much. I have Clockwork Angles and Snakes and Arrows blu rays and the audio quality is not that great.
