Capitol has just released 5 Beach Boys vinyl reissues this month - Friends, 20/20, Love You, In Concert, Live in London.

Has anyone heard these yet or have any insight into the mastering?

I saw those listed online too. Which confuses me, because I thought there was a series of Kevin Gray Beach Boys remasters coming out.

I got in 20/20 today. A/B'd with a Green Capitol it came in just a touch more amplified and retained the same tonal qualities. Probably a good reissue. Can't wait for more reviews!

Are these issued under the same "From the Capitol Vaults" as other recent Beach Boys reissues? How's the packaging?

No vault crap this time. 180g. No extra liner notes unless I missed something. Nice glossy print and inner center thingy loading just like the OG.

Interesting. Thanks. May have to pick up Friends and 20/20, then...

It is confusing and frustrating that the catalogue's been divvied up between different labels. Heartening to hear that the 20/20 reissue sounds good. Would love to hear if Friends is any good.

Is a proper Pet Sounds reissue in the works?

I was surprised to see these at Amoeba this afternoon. Friends and 20/20 were tempting, but I've learned to hold off on BB stuff until I hear a good bit of feedback first.

Don't you like the SACD from MFSL?

Sorry, I meant LP. I saw one of Steve's on Ebay, but was $150! I don't like the album that much.

Picked up Friends and 20/20 at Amoeba Berkeley last night. Have listened to Friends so far, and while I don't have an earlier pressing to compare it to, I can say I liked the sound of it. Vinyl on both is clean and flat. Packaging is nothing special -- and Friends has a plain paper inner sleeve, whereas 20/20 is poly-lined.

I'd also like to see a reissue of Pet Sounds up to the standard of the audio fidelity one. I can't afford those crazy prices either.

The brother 70s reissue (twinned with CATP) is the next best thing and quite affordable (but expect you already know this).

I don't have any of the green dome reissues from the early '80s, but if these newer LPs are on par with those, then that would work for me. The green dome Pet Sounds mono reissue is hard to find and quite pricey.

The new FRIENDS vinyl is magnificent. It's easily the best-sounding version I've ever heard. Dynamic as hell and the vinyl is flat, heavy and dead quiet. Get this one.

Thanks for the feedback. Picked up Friends today and it does sound great. Anyone hear any of the others?

  21. I remember working in a record store when Loves You came out. We were actually excited before it was released .... Then....

    What a horrible album.

    I disagree

  25. Fair enough. I like most of the others in the reissue series but their version of Rock n Roll is embarrassing. IMHO
