Plus Sony just released the jumbo Herbie Hancock box containing, of course, Sextant.

While it's true that 'Fat Albert Rotunda' is for the most part a minor entry in his discography, ignoring it will result in passing over one of his most sumptuous pieces of music, 'Tell Me A Bedtime Story.' It also points the way forward to what was to follow, especially in how the horns are voiced on that piece.

"Sextant" has seen at least one SACD release and a 96/24 release. While the original WB complete Hancock CD release was very well mastered, I would like to see HiRes versions available, as well.

I don't believe Sextant was ever released on SACD?

You are correct. Wishful thinking? I have the 96/24, CD and LP but no SACD :).

I'm curious to see how the new 3-disc set is packaged.... will each album have its own case, or will the discs just be contained in a fold-out package (like the Miles Davis Bootleg Series, for example)? I'm just wondering because Crossings is the only one I don't have a stand-alone copy of...

    Which "Mwandishi"(1971) do you have?

Anyone pick up this set yet? How's the sound quality?

Darn it, I didn't realize this new one was one 3 cd's. Now I'll have to keep my old one still when I get this because of it's unique configuration split over 2 discs. That 2nd disc is a great one to take along on a trip.

I didn't realize that the track "Crossings" on disc 3 is a rare non-album single that isn't available elsewhere.... guess I may have to pick up the new set after all. :p

If anyone else was wondering, the discs are each housed in their own individual LP replica cardboard sleeves. :)

My only gripe with the packaging of the 3-CD set The Warner Bros. Years is that the CD's fit very tightly into the Mini-lp cardboard sleeves, making it difficult to take them out.

How is the sound quality on the new set? Can you post DR #s?

If this new Warner Bros 3CD Box sounds good it's a 'must have' at the current price for those that don't have these classics. Mwandishi & Crossings are two of my favourite Herbie albums. I already have them on vinyl and the last CD versions, with that horrible red stripe on the left side. (Why do they do that?) It would be nice to have the mini LP covers with upgraded audio for £12.

I didn't have any trouble with the Fat Albert or Mwandishi discs, but the Crossings CD was definitely a tight fit... I almost couldn't get it out at all!

Yeah, it's Crossings that is too tight. The mini-lp packaging for Fat Albert and Mwandishi is OK.

I've seen this box today in my store, does someone who owns it compared the sound to previous releases ? (especially the 2CD set with the same 3 albums)
