Whenever people mention Da Capo they always make certain to qualify it by saying how bad Revelations is, but I think it's a great jam. Maybe my taste has been irreparably ruined by listening to too many jazz albums, but I enjoy how the band stretches out and it is probably the most psychedelic thing Love ever recorded. The format of the album reminds me of Atom Heart Mother or Meddle, with one side of concise pop songs, the other a nice, extended track to immerse yourself in.

Ouch! How could I have overlooked "It's a Beautiful Day?" One of my favorites, too!

I like the song fine...unlike somE folks...I've grown to enjoy it. The cool I don't know if it's a harpsichord or not but that cool central riff is neat, and there are bits of brilliance scattered in it...but that first side is EPIC, it crushes the amazing forever changes and regardless of my feel for revelations, it pales next to that first side...maybe it wasn't recorded well (as lee cited) maybe it's just impossible to live up to side a, but da capo should be universally hailed as one of the best albums ever and it isn't because of side b.

They tried to do their own going home by the stones, but the stones did that jam better....

Agree completely. I enjoy Happy Trails but I love the self titled effort.

I feel the same way. If ever forced to only listen to one album from here on out, Forever Changes would be it.

I'm with you brother! Love Da Capo was a great album. Way more in the psyche category than "Forever Changes". I was, am, and always a Love fan. Back when "Forever Changes" was first released, many of my fellow Love fans did not know what to make of that record. It was such a departure from the previous records, some did not like it at all.

In most of recent articles written about " Revelation" many now pan it. We loved that song (if you want to call it that) and played it repeatedly. History has way re-writing itself and not always consistent with the reality of the time. Forever Changes is a great record on it's own merits, but it was not originally considered the classic that it is now recognized for.

It starts out good, gets kind of rough around the 5 minute point, but slowly improves and once the saxophone starts in - gets nice and jammin'!

Oh...and as far as the comparison to The Stones' "Goin' Home" - rumor has it that is was actually The Rolling Stones who were copying Love. They saw Love play a super-long 30 minute rendition of their blues jam "John Lee Hooker" while visiting L.A. and it inspired them to try their own attempt on record with "Goin' Home".

I've always like it, yes it's not to the standard of the first side (what is?) but it's great loud.

It is a dedicated mono mix. It has a lot more muscle than the stereo mix.

I just managed to grab it, it sounds like a different record. Made my day! even my son had to comment on me playing even weirder music than normal....

Can't really think of 10 because I take the term "psychedelic" a lot more literally than some others do. That is, I expect blatant psychedelic effects in the music (phasing, echo, etc.) along with hypnotic drone. Anyway, here are my absolute faves:

HP Lovecraft - HP Lovecraft II
The Pretty Things - S.F. Sorrow
The Byrds - The Notorious Byrd Brothers
Pink Floyd - The Piper at the Gates of Dawn (honestly, I prefer Relics but that doesn't really count since it came later)
