Both the fan art and the official art are pretty bad, IMO. The 5.1 DVD cover of the Division Bell would have been better, as this album was sourced from that era anyway.

The Final Cut quite frankly doesn't have a great cover.

I listened to it for the first time today though and loved the album...listened to it two times through in fact...the cover art though is pretty forgettable.

He also did my favourite Deep Purple cover art (Deep Purple cover art is generally substandard, IMHO): the live album Nobody's Perfect... A deeply flawed album which I love to death regardless... great artwork, I can't seem to be able to upload it here...

Not anymore. Amazon is $32 and Bull moose is $30. Since Amazon charges tax and BM doesn't I pre-ordered from BM. That actually make the third pre-order. I'm also waiting on the two Zep deluxe CDs and the 4 DVD Pink Floyd 50 years one.

  11. Interesting seeing some of the comments about the cover.

I immediately thought of Charon and the (endless) river Styx with Rick as the Boatman......

I forgot The Bull would be free shipping ! $1.98 + $2.99 = $4.97 saved with The Bull ! Amazon cancelled.

Jack is proud of me again.

I like it, but I would have used that great striking image of the soldier with the knife in his back.

they are all military badges I believe.....not 100% sure what the upper left object is though. (or the purple and white swatch above the ribbons. (my terminology might be off...apologies)

Image in upper left corner is a poppy. Purple and white swatch is just another military ribbon.

    From wiki

The front cover shows a Remembrance poppy and four World War II medal ribbons laid out on a black fabric background. From left to right the medals are the 1939–45 Star, the Africa Star, the Defence Medal, and the Distinguished Flying Cross.[21]

Upper left is a paper poppy - that they wear on Remembrance Day (Memorial Day for us Stateside).

I know this because I conversed with Roger about this personally when I was lucky enough to run into him asked him about it , knowing it was his design as I always liked the cover.

That's Roger.... showing himself and only himself on the front cover of the "Pink Floyd" album would've been suiting for the time.

Incidentally, there's more meaning to the photo - he's holding film cans to represent being 'stabbed in the back' by Alan Parker.

Its also a reference to the lyrics of Your Possible Pasts and that The Final Cut was originally intended to be the soundtrack to The Wall movie.

The Final Cut features so much "Pink Floyd" as A Momentary Lapse of Reason, in any case. I like the first one more, though (note: I'm not pro-Waters or anti-Gilmour, I admire both).

You're a lucky fellow, discovering those records for the first time! Enjoy it, but be careful, there's no coming back :unhunh:
