I won't pay to hear Yoko do Temporary Secretary. On the other hand, I'm in if she's going to record Cook of the House.

Just the idea of Yoko having some form of collaboration with Paul in the first place, be it her doing a cover of one of his songs or whatever, is just mind boggling.

I think they did record something together in the 90s, don't think it was ever released.

Anyone else kinda shocked he did this song "straight", instead of as a parody? Does he ever do that?

Do you have a source for the "late 70s visit" between George & John?

I didn't think they ever met during that period...

  7. I think she may cover the entire electronic sounds album without the moog.

I've made my way through the box, which I love, but re: Extra Texture....can I vent on how much I can't stand David Foster? He ruined Andrea Bocelli's career by turning a fabulous voice into total MOR mush. He basically does the same to this album, sadly with George's approval. Didn't he help ruin Chicago as well? blech.

The new Dark Horse remaster is making me appreciate "Ding Dong, Ding Dong" a lot more than I used to. Sounds great.

Looking back few years, its staggering the number of reissues that have come out of the "Apple" family:

14 albums on the Beatles Stereo box
11 albums on the Beatles Mono box
15 abums on the Apple Records box
8 albums on the Lennon box
7 albums so far on Paul's Archive series
3 Beatles compilation reissues (Red, Blue, 1)
13 albums on the Beatles US albums box
5 albums on the Beatles Japanese albums box
6 albums on the Harrison box

    That's 82 album reissues in 5 years!

A couple days ago, I realized "That's The Way It Goes" was a Harrison track. I always thought Joe Brown did one of his own songs there. As you can guess, I've never heard Gone Troppo.

IMO they should have just added overdubs to the demo of Dark Horse, just a way superior vocal on that one.

I personally think that you are in for a treat when you do listen to Gone Troppo. Alongside the great 'That's The Way It Goes', it also contains other fantastic, catchy, melodic songs like: Wake Up My Love, Gone Troppo, Dream Away and Mystical One. It also has a great version of his song Circles, which he originally wrote whilst he was in the Beatles (just in case you didn't know about it).

I agree. I originally bought the album on cassette because it was in a cutout bin and was only $2.99. I figured it was a Harrison album I didn't have and I wasn't losing much if I didn't like it. Turns out I was surprised! It's not a spiritually deep album, then again not a deep album by any means, but it's an enjoyable listen.

There is a reason that Gone Troppo is not a deep album---it's a "cement mix". As George wrote in the liner notes:
This album has been a cement mix. On a nice sunny day, start the cement mixer. One bucket of water, three shovels of sand to one shovelful of cement (more water if sand is very dry). This is the average mix, and quite normal. If stronger mix is required, repeat the process on a nice sunny day.

I'm going to revisit Gone Troppo and Somewhere in England for that very reason. As a lot of folks seem to be (re)discovering gems on Dark Horse and Extra Texture, so too are there goodies in those 80's albums. It's mostly the production that turns me off. I've thought that if Dylan had recorded those Christian and other 80's albums around the time he did Time Out of Mind, they'd be among my favorites. But I digress and ramble...

'That's the Way it Goes' was an obvious choice for Joe Brown to play. He played mandolin on George's original recording of the song.
