Fine, you made your two points , but to me, this is an apples to oranges comparison.

EMI's own tonearms were used on the Garrards, but the pick ups were Ortofon.
Hence the tie in with the new Ortofon M2 Mono SE "Beatles Tribute" cartridge.

Could you explain what a "pocket problem" is thanks? I'm not familiar with this expression. Thanks[/QUOTE]
Hi...yes...The "pocket" is musicians slang for a player who plays his/her parts so that they are in time and groove, groove being the feeling. Drummers, who much of the time have to put that snare drum on beats 2 and 4 are usually singled out for having a good or bad "pocket". Ringo Starr is one of the best pocket players that ever lived!!!

I have subtly (a little goes a long way) eq'ed some of the mono cd albums. The good tjing about a flat transfer is that you can do this. Help needs a little bit of highend and then it sounds much better.

And not only you and I agree, but so does Steve Berkowitz and Sean Magee who have stated this in question and answer sessions.

I have Rubber Soul and SPLHCB ( loved them both). Which two next?

Revolver and White Album. Those also have enough to them that you'll fall in love with them all over again.

Personally, the WA in mono is not one of my favorites.

Yes, Revolver. But if you don't have Please Please Me, it's directness in recording and freshness in the music is just a great listen.

Good point there, as well. Please Please Me and/or With The Beatles are great examples of encapsulating that early Mersey Sound period, and what groups were doing all around Liverpool and its environs.

Well Reolver it is. I have the 2012 WA. Is the new mono a revelation? Please Please Me
sounds like early crappy stereo on the 2012. So, it's PPM and Revolver for now.

Some things I have noticed, is it the same on all of these 2014 records:

Back In The USSR : On the fade just before it segues into Dear Prudence there is an audible 'thump'
Your Going To Lose That Girl: Very, Very Dull sounding unlike the Stereo version
Things We Said Today: At about the 0.35 second mark there is very noticeable tape dropout/damage
When I Get Home: dropout at 0:59 (tape chewing/drag)

I am sure these are the same for everyone but just checking in case I have faulty records, cheers !!

Well, obviously. So what? Why is that a problem?

It's a problem because some things were issued on an Apple label, but not an Orange label. Unless you count the orange Capitol labels, which are not in this box set.

    I noticed this too.

Do we know if this was a feature of previous mono pressings or an editing mistake

    Regards

Did I say it was a problem in that post? Where did you see that?

Just meant we can agree to disagree. If you have an issue with it, then so what

Well, like many of your posts, the latter part of the one above being yet another example, I found it to be aggressive in tone.

I did not get the "we'll have to agree to disagree" message from your earlier posts.

Sorry if you feel my posts are aggressive in nature. You can always block me

And please keep in your mind that your post was confrontational as well. Kind of the pot calling the kettle black isn't it?

Oh, I don't want to block you. At least you say something unlike people who just post "here" or some variation of that repeatedly.

    And point taken.

Yup. Both are totally different, and as far as Beatles CDs go, the 2009 remasters are the best I own.

The thing about PPM is that it was recorded live in the studio. I believe that WTB was recorded on 4-track and mixed to mono. Both great albums, but PPM has a bigger sound.

And orange Apple labels confuse things even further...

WTB was also recorded twin track.

Why does PPM sound bigger and more consistent sonically than WTB?
