I don't know why, but I've been digging on the Musical Saw lately. Right, I mean, maybe I know why, because it's a friggin' cool instrument! It can sound downright beautiful, to eerie, to grating...and a little bit of it all in between.

So, pull up your socks and post some Musical Saw tunes that you'd like to share (and share alike)...or drop your drawers and don't. Any way you'll have it, you have to admit it's intriguing ear candy.

    That was beautiful.

I saw someone play the saw in a band once. And I swear, for every song, they just scraped out the same note.

here's a nice example of the saw (@21:32)

  7. Mercury Rev used it in a few numbers on their album Deserter's Songs. I thought it was a theremin at first, although the saw has a bit more of a "high lonesome" sort of sound.

Yeah, Steve Wesson even plays on some songs from two of the post-reunion albums by the Flatlanders, "Now Again" and "Wheels Of Fortune". Too bad they did not invite him back for what I feel is their best album as songwriters, "Hills And Valleys".

Here's hoping there will be more saw again on the Flatlanders' next album!

Richard Hawley had a saw player on his Truelove's Gutter album to great effect
