That was UNAUTHORIZED and Dickey Betts sued.

I thought the hippie anthem was "I Feel Like I'm Fixin' To Die Rag". Why doesn't KFC use that?

    A. If I was an heir of Dino Valenti I'd like the income the song generates.
    B. If these kind of songs aren't used in commercials they are just going to dry up and never be heard again anyway, so who cares ?
It's not like using them in commercials wastes them from being used for some larger more important purpose, because there is no larger more important purpose at this point in time.:p

  5. It's retirement money. For ex-hippies.

One song KFC will never use: "Free Bird."

I would have thought a better choice of song is 'That's The Way I Lick It' by KFC And The Sunshine Band.

Beat me to it, though the composer credit was given to his real name, Chet Powers.

Also, who owns the publishing? That's the person making the most money.

Yes, I agree. I used to get offended at the thought of these songs from the 60's and 70's being used in commercials, but most of them are dead songs to younger generations.
So, if someone hears a Beatles, Doors, or Hendrix song, etc., in a commercial and it leads them to check out the music of that artist, great.

It all ties in. I'm sure some of the hippies were extra crispy on occasion.

If they'd have only implemented this campaign 40 years ago. Man, just think of the profits.. There wouldn't have been all that advice to buy plastics either. No, it would have been chicken son, think chicken. :)

Yes and instead of the Maharishi with his white robes and beard, we could have sat at the feet of...Colonel Sanders with his white suit and goatee.

It's neither really here nor there, but I was surprised to hear Knopfler's "Walk Of Life" for some pharmaceutical this week during the national news.* Not really surprised to hear the song in an ad, but in THAT KIND of ad.

*note: if you're not in the States, the national news broadcasts - for some strange reason - are sponsored almost exclusively by pharmaceutical companies.

It was in the early 90s, IIRC.
Not the Allmans.. it was a soundalike, and they really did sing "Lobsters Everywhere".
I only saw it once, but it was a "Did I Really See That?" moment.
