Only about ten years ago I discovered that Ronnie Ross was the sax player and not Bowie.

Very fun thread to read through and play these sax solos in my head!

Limiting myself to solos that haven't been mentioned, I'll go recent and say "Hot Dreams" by Timber Timbre. Adds a fantastic emotional crescendo to a supremely chilled-out tune.

I've always liked John Fogerty's sax solos in "Travelin' Bamd" and "Rock And Roll Girls" among others. You can tell he just picked up the saxophone and played it, he not very good at it but something about his playing endears me to it. I guess it just has that wonky sound that seasoned player would have, it just sounds kind of refreshing.

The epic solo by Dick Parry on Pink Floyd's Shine On You Crazy Diamond.

And pretty much any solo by Bobby Keys on Exile on Main Street, Rip This Joint comes to mind.

not a big fan of sax, but I guess Us and Them (just because it doesn't bother me) and there is also an amazing one in one of the songs on Monk/Coltrane at Carnegie Hall, but can't remember which tune

There are so many great sax solos that I love to whistle along to. And most of them are played on tenor sax by Jim Horn. He is my favourite sax player in rock.

Good choice...Jeff Beck's "Rock and Roll Party -Tribute To Les Paul" is a must have Blu Ray, with
a stellar line up. The group featured in the clip is Imelda May's backing group with her husband
Darryl Higham on lead and vocal. And the sax player's name is Leo Green, and I don't know why
he isn't a truly major star. He sounds like Jim Horn and Steve Douglas (two of the three greatest
sax players in early sixties rock and roll, the other being Plas Johnson) rolled into one. His wailing
high energy sax solos are among the best I've ever heard. I had forgotten about him until you mentioned
    him. Thanks for reminding me.

Outside of the Jazz idiom where there are too many great saxophone solos to count, for Rock I'll go with "Ladies Of The Road" by King Crimson just because the solo is so rude.
