That's what I call a really strong concept album, and the first masterpiece by the band.

Yeah, I actually tend to prefer it to some of the more heavy conceptual efforts that followed. Sell Out maintains a freewheeling spirit of fun throughout. Though not one of their most famous releases, I think its reputation has grown stronger over the years.

Most of the songs on Love's Forever Changes.
The remarkable thing is that the individual parts are often not repeated, which is quite uncommon in pop music and likely why some listeners have a problem "getting" FC.

The McCartney catalog is full of them. "Band on the Run" is an example. Which of his albums don't have them?

Nick Lowe admitted he pulled a "McCartney" by stringing melodic bits and smashed them together on his LP, Jesus of Cool, ("Nutted by Reality").

Crippled Black Phoenix and the song "No!" Check it out below. A great epic slice of Prog/Psych/Stoner music. Listen to the whole epic track loud in one sitting.

Or don't...but there it is. My favorite song of the year so far.

Wikipedia quote: «"Halo of Flies" "Halo of Flies" was, according to Cooper's liner notes in the compilation The Definitive Alice Cooper, an attempt by the band to prove that they could perform King Crimson-like progressive rock suites (...)»
King Crimson-like or not, it sounds, first of all, like Alice Cooper, and in the golden era of the band. Amazing number (by the way, I think we have another good example of an extended multi-part song in that album: "Killer", the title track).

With Bohemian Rhapsody, they just kept cutting the tape and putting it together until it worked. Great job.

Yet still not as much as it deserves. One of the things I love about this remarkable album, apart from the brilliant music and the actual concept itself, is how much humour is in it. I don't think they ever got that back.

I can never play just 2 or 3 songs from it...I always have to play it from start to finish. Or start to bonus tracks.

  18. Is this what detractors call "bitty" (at least in the UK)?

I'm listening to The Four Season's psych-filled The Genuine Imitation Life Gazette, and the opening track alone has at least three distinct parts and styles. Great LP BTW - just wild.

Another track I love is Cashman & West's "American City Suite".
