Einsturzende Neubauten has a new commissioned piece for the 100th anniversary of WWI. The album, Lament, comes out in November (LP, CD, download). Big tour planned, but no US dates listed yet. Blixa Bargeld did an interesting interview at the University of Copenhagen, where he played a long sound sample (song: How Did I Die?) and discussed how they incorporated some of the world's earliest field recordings of music and speech into the project. What I've heard so far was fascinating and a bit haunting. Can't wait for the album and hope I get to see a performance. i was going to link the interview, but it's no longer available. i'll post if i find samples of the music.
Samples are up on Qobuz: http://www.qobuz.com/gb-en/album/lament-einsturzende-neubauten/4018939271893
i like what i hear (mostly). i'm hearing a pop autotune track and a cartoony american accent track, which both seem out of place for the group, but maybe there's a larger opera-context going on.
The samples sounded terrific. Another change of direction for the group it seems. Will there be an US release?
no specific US release listed as yet. it looks like the LP and CD are pressed in europe, which folks can order from the Neubauten site and from AmazonUK and Germany. live dates across Europe and Russia are listed on the site (many sold out already). No North American dates listed yet. album link here: http://www.neubauten.org/lament

As excited as I am to see EN an active group again, I hope Blixa will work again with Teho Teardo. Their Still Smiling collaboration from last year was wonderful. One of my favorite releases of 2013.
My interest has been piqued after reading a rave review of the album below. I lost touch with them around the late 80s, and didn't even realise they were still going. Anyone bought or heard it yet? http://louderthanwar.com/einsturzen...view-stunning-release-1010-album-of-the-year/
i've had time to go through it twice so far. my first impression is that this album, to me, sounds like a great document to the performance. it seems less like an album of songs/pieces and more like a longer musical/stage exploration of the WWI theme. definitely intriguing and filled with atmosphere. as i mentioned above, there is one track w auto-tune, which sounds almost like a parody of contemporary form (albeit w historical content), and doesn't quite seem cohesive IMHO with the rest. the choice itself is experimental in a way, so i may warm up to that track. i look forward to getting to know this album better with further listening. an i hope the group performs in my area so i can see how it all gels on stage w blixa's text-cards and the "playing" of archival filed recordings live.
One of my favorite bands, though I haven't really bothered with any of their output past Tabula Rasa. I think the last album I heard from them was Silence is Sexy, which a friend bought, and I wasn't too impressed with that one.
