You Don't Know Jack (HBO, 2010)

Really well done film - I didn't think it would be that good (Levinson is hit or miss and Pacino has been almost a non-stop miss... until this).

Pacino hasn't nailed a role like this on the big screen in for so long, to see him in this was like watching Michael Douglas as Liberace. Seems classic actors are bringing out their inner talent for HBO. Are big screen movies turning into big paychecks for big names to phone-in performances while HBO movies are more personal to the actor... and result in better performances?

Both Michael Douglas and Al Pacino in their respective films were just perfect - and both swept a bunch of TV awards. After the first three minutes of watching them, I completely believed that the actors transformed into who they were playing - and both without overacting at all.

Sorry I'm late to the original HBO movies - going through most of them now!

Maps to the Stars. Even more yawn-inducing than American Hustle. Still not as all-round goshawful as Trance though.

Watched Rio Grande with John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara.

Maureen O'Hara was such a doll!

I'm proud of the fact that I can watch a show like this with my two boys, 9 and 11, and they're intrigued by the story, not just the action. One even mentioned that, "It's nice how they used to make movies in black and white." :pleased:

I'll have to get the blu-ray because my "Silver Screen Classics" version has been digitally sharpened to hell.

Watched "To Be or Not to Be" with Jack Benny, hysterical...... one of the best....
A bit dark as well.... I was still laughing today about Jack, disguised as a Nazi Spy, naming the top guys in the resistance to the Nazis, and everyone he names, turns out the Nazis had already knocked them off (hence they couldn't be questioned)..
I probably didn't explain it that well, just watch the movie and trust me !! GREAT movie..

Isn't it something that there are so many great movies on DVD that are no
longer in print and are difficult to obtain these days.

many...I do find titles used though for cheap...I've been picking up some great older stuff I couldn't afford years ago...many of the older DVD titles look better than the new releases on DVD...Thanks to BR and streaming the bins are chock full...LOL! I can get 25 titles for the original price of one of them...great times for the movie buff who doesn't have to see the sweat on their brows to enjoy the movie...on the flip I just can't stop buying them!

I really got to start checking out my local retail outlets.
I have been getting some cool older DVDs, pretty reasonably priced, online.

However, if you happen to see a cheap DVD of Where's Poppa? please don't
hesitate to give me a shout.

I like cheap DVDs on my 27-in CRT. :D

I will keep a look out for Where's Poppa? ...
problem with online outlets like Amazon even if the DVD is a penny it's still $4.00! that sucks...I do like half.com where the shipping is less than Amazon...only a buck, but it's substantial to me.
