This is hysterical. If he happened to win, isn't there someone out there who could sue over just about every character they have on the show?

If I were him, I would not have wanted to bring attention to the resemblance.

 

I think he's probably right in that it was a copy of his character. If you read the article, you find out that the actor used to live in the same apartment building as some of the Simpsons writer/producers in the early 1990s, so they were very familiar with him. But the problem is: 1) the guy waited more than 20 years to sue, 2) he didn't create the character, and 3) satire is considered Fair Use when it's clear the character is not the original (which goes back to the "Superduperman" Mad Magazine lawsuit, where DC Comics sued the magazine). Some cases like this aren't winnable.

 

Of course it isn't, but that obvious fact doesn't stop a scumbag lawyer from putting the bug in his ear.
