I purchased a Marantz 2235 for my office. Room is 15' x 15' and unit will be played mostly at low to medium volume. Will mainly be playing local radio. Trying to choose a bookshelf speaker that will work well. Speakers will most likely be on a shelf close to wall so I need something that isn't finicky about placement. I was thining of the PSB Alpha B-1 or maybe Monitor Audio Bronze Bx2. Looking to spend $250-$400. Please let me know if you have any recommendations. Thanks in advance

Cambridge Soundworks model 6. Look for USA produced early version. Cheap and quite good. Vintage looking as well.

ah yes. Another one of my shortlist speakers. Are the epos easy enough to drive?? I guess you need a fairly sensitive pair of speakers with these older receivers.

They are sensitive enough to be driven by your Marantz.

If you are into refurbishing vintage speakers its tough to beat the Advent Baby II's....really cheap on ebay and not a lot of work...

Paradigm speakers have a wide range of models and prices. Their speakers are more efficient and dynamic than usual, also good value for the money. Titans are in your price range.

I've narrowed the search to three options. New Dali Zensor 1, used Totem Mite, or new Epos Epic 2. I'm leaning towards the Dalis or the Totems as they are smaller and will fit the space better.

A pair of vintage Polk Monitor 5B's would mate well with your Marantz.

  16. Go and listen to some first to get an idea of the sound you are looking for.
Of the small bookshelfs I have heard the PSB B1 is my favorite at the $200-250 range.

I dig the Rega RS1. Haven't found anything on used market. I may wait a week and see if a pair show up anywhere. Receiver arrives on Monday so I'm getting antsy. Thanks for all of the suggestions and I'll look into those as well.

I had a pair of the earlier R1 and liked them a lot. They provide excellent detail and imaging, and are rather 'quick,' but they are kind of on the lean side.

The LSA .5 speakers are available for $499. Beautiful build quality and what little info I can find seems very positive. I don't think I'd be able to hear them though before buying

I'm surprised there has been no mention for JBL.
As JBL's are quite efficient, any of their vintage speakers would mate quite well with your Marantz.

Currently I have L-100's paired with a 2270 at my cottage. At my office I'm using a pair of 4412's with a 2238.
    Both systems sound excellent!

Yes, MusicDirect has some decent speakers on clearnance - both those Epos and Focal suggestions caught my eye recently as I plan a small system for the dining room -- anyone heard both?

I got the epic 2 speakers a little while back and I am amazed honestly, driving them with a AS-500 and I am more than happy.
