Please only vote for one of the two listed bands. Obviously, the VS. signifies who's matched up against who. Each Round will last 7 days. The seeding was done by me using my best judgement. Nothing was done to ensure specific match ups although some turned out to be more interesting than others. If you don't approve of my seeding, sorry.

YOU CAN ONLY CAST A MAXIMUM OF 8 VOTES so remember it's one vote for each pairing. Also, you CAN change your vote until the poll closes in 7 days.

As for how this was chosen, after feedback from forum members, I spent a lot of time compiling this list of the 64 greatest American bands. I'm sure some were left off who you think should've been included and vice versa but I do think this is a nice sampling nonetheless. Stayed away from solo artists with unnamed backing bands, included every rock group in the ROHF (if I missed one sorry) and the rule was at least half the members had to be from the U.S. Feel free to get involved in voting but PLEASE let's see if this can just be fun and not devolve into threadcrap craziness. I have faith in all you... well, most of you. Let the competition begin!

Is Buffalo Springfield going to beat the Eagles? What in Bernie Leadon is going on here?!

Close matchups here. I predict Allman Bros. may prevail. Some great bands!

The Byrds losing to the Beach Boys is a joke. Hopefully at least Buffalo Springfield holds on.

I think on this board, it's pretty clear who will win this thing: The Beach Boys. Though, CCR has garnered more votes than anyone else, but that might just say something about their opponent.

Not sure I agree. I think CCR or the Doors will win it all.

I'm not a big Beach Boys fan by any means but they did put out what many might consider the most important American rock album ever with Pet Sounds.

An "important" album before which I would listen to anything by the Byrds. Just my opinion.

Beach Boys for the win. I like the Byrds but no way are they as good as Brian Wilson..a joke?? In your world I guess.

I actually am a big Beach Boys fan, but after they knocked out R.E.M. last round, they do not have my vote for anything for the duration of this poll.

News alert - these are all opinions.

Am I expected to know (or care) what goes on in your world before expressing one on an anonymous internet poll?

    Mindblanking ,
thanks for the interesting thread ; if nothing else it's fun to compare.
Obviously, just like in sports the seeding is critical ... But what can you do?
Wait 'til next year, I guess! Or the next poll.
    Singer- songwriters?
    New Wave groups?
Heavy Metal band NAMES...not the music...
Go Buddy Holly and the Crickets!

Mostly ho-hum stuff for me. I only voted in half the contests, this time. I just can't work up any enthusiasm for Spingsteen v. Steely Dan.

That the Eagles advanced two rounds tells you about everything you need to know about this tournament.
