Earlier this year the Ghostbusters soundtrack got a glow in the dark release. Now scented... They're really finding new ways to get people to buy that soundtrack again.

Hopefully it's not scratch and sniff. Otherwise we're going to have a lot of scratched vinyls.

Didn't the Raspberries have scratch and sniff cover back when they were new?

A scratch and sniff cover would be OK. So would a scratch an sniff inner label (the round paper label pressed in a record). But scratch and sniff vinyl? Yikes! You wouldn't be able to keep me from purposely scratching it and ruining the playback quality.

When I buy vinyl, all I'm really looking for is how it smells.

I was just going to post this! Yes, my copy of Fresh that I bought in 1972 was scratch-n-sniff -- only the title, or maybe the band name on the front cover. This was extremely impressive to an 11 year old. And then just two years later, Sensurround. Truly, we were living in an age of wonders.

Old used vinyl is always scented. That basement shelf dusty cardboard musk kinda scent...that's what they're going for, right?

I'm sure there's a few copies of Country Life out there with ectoplasm on the cover.

They had a scratch and sniff sticker on the cover of their first album. Laura Nyro had a perfumed lyric sheet with her Eli and the 13th Confession album and Ben Atkins' Patchouli album cover was scented with patchouli oil. The Moody Blues also had a perfumed album cover with Octave. It seems to make more sense to perfume the cover than the actual vinyl record.

I think Jack White released his wife's album on peach-scented vinyl a few years back.

What do you use to clean scratch and sniff vinyl, Febreze?

  18. Pabst Blue Ribbon scented vinyl, the hipsters favorite!

Edit: On an unironic note, this kind of thing is so dumb, I love it.

I'm sure we can all agree that there are quite a few albums out there that really stink.

Mondo just had a 1000 copy release of Shaun Of The Dead in strawberry scent and cornetto swirl. I won one at their convention, but let my friend have it. I don't think he likes the smell.

Yeah, scented vinyl isn't really a new thing. I'm just amazed at the mileage the Ghostbusters soundtrack is getting.
