From this list, Reckoning, but for me the album of the year is Laurie Anderson's Mister Heartbreak, featuring Bill Laswell and Adrian Belew. Guest starring William S. Burroughs.

I recently, happily, discovered that my copy, one of the first CDs I ever bought, is a 'target' and I think it sounds particularly fine.

1 whole R&B record from '84. Man, another difficult year for the genre...smh

Reckoning and Let It Be from the list. Bruce and U2 as much. The Eurythmics 1984 (For the Love of Big Brother) is a favorite mood music album of mine.

Maybe, but there are some records on the list that were influenced by R&B a genre that I love.

Purple Rain is the only one listed of the ones I'm familiar with that was worthy of a vote.

Other than "Purple Rain" (one could stretch with Run DMC but I wouldn't), what other record on that list has anything at all to do with R&B? Enlighten me. I'm genuinely curious.

Of the albums listed, I went with Echo and the Bunnymen's Ocean Rain. Purple Rain had more great pop tunes, but as an album Echoes album is a more consistent mood piece. The early 80's where a great time for music!

Tough choice between R.E.M., The Replacements and Husker Du, but had to go with R.E.M. Reckoning is my favorite album of theirs.
