Wow some of you are posting some crazy high numbers. Did you follow a band around on tour? Shows cost way too much, especially now, so I don't go very much anymore. I'll list the acts I've seen at least 3 times.

    Rolling Stones
    Black Flag
    R.E.M.
    Dead Kennedys
    The Cure
    Siouxsie & the Banshees
    Neil Young
    B**thole Surfers
    Pixies
    Flaming Lips
    Jesus and Mary Chain

    Byron Berline

Except for Bobby Hicks and The Zuma Jam which I've seen a dozen or more times:

  7. Wow, some folks here are nuts! The only act I've seen more than twice is Caspar Brotzmann, twice with Massakar (Montreal, 1993 and '95) and once with his dad Peter (Victoriaville, 1994).

Although if I'm going to split hairs, I've seen Chris Cornell four times: once with Audioslave (1994 at a Washington state amphitheater on the Lollapalooza tour), once solo (Ottawa, 2009) and twice with Soundgarden (Ottawa and Calgary, 2011).

I've seen Tom Waits 6 times and may have seen other acts like Todd Rundgren more than 6. But once I saw him live, SRV is the first artist I remember making it official policy of always seeing anytime he came to town.

Over the years, it would have to be "The Grateful Dead". I probably saw them at least 30 times between 1968 until 1980. I have seen many other bands like "Ten Years After" or "Jethro Tull" at least 10 time each. I quit going to concerts pretty much after 1985.

I've seen Yo La Tengo 7 times and will see them every time I can until they or I croak.

The only others I've seen more than once are the Mountain Goats and tUnE-yArDs, twice each.

There was about 15 years or so during which I did not go to as many concerts (maybe none for half that time). I don't think I would have much bigger numbers per band if I had. What I would have done was see more bands that I never saw. I'm trying to make up for lost time but there are a lot that are no longer with us.

Who has traveled to follow a band around on tour?
What is the most shows you have seen on one tour? (allowing that some bands may have toured more or less continuously)
Edit - I started a separate thread with these questions.

    In the 3+ club:

    Neil Young (4)
    Billy Bragg (3)
    John Renbourn (4)
    Pere Ubu (3)
    The Residents (3)
    Bob Dylan (3)
    Caspar Brotzmann (3)
    Robyn Hitchcock (3)
    Steve Lacy (3)

Not counting artists who are friends or who I've shared bills with in tour-type situations (e.g., I've seen Pavement about a dozen times, but we were always opening for them - I've never stood out in the crowd and watched).

believe it or not the Kinks (12 times) followed by Nick Cave and the Fall. that is of household names anyway - obviously there are smaller bands like the Negro Problem and Mission of Burma that I've seen loads more times.

I feel like a beginner here with some of the numbers quoted! I don't remember dates and exact numbers, but:

Eric Clapton - more than 20 times.
Pink Floyd (from Syd to post Roger eras) and the Stranglers (all with Hugh) more than a dozen times each.

Other interesting stats I've realized in the last few weeks:

I've seen 3 James Bond themes performed by their original artists ("Thunderball," "View To A Kill" and "Live And Let Die") and actually seen "Live And Let Die" played 6 times now, three by McCartney and three by the Axl Rose Band.

    I need a life.

Grateful Dead - 247 (plus approx. 50 Jerry Garcia Band and Garcia/Grisman shows). Only a handful of post-Garcia shows featuring various configurations of former members (and those should not be and are not included in the count).

Don't have the info handy at the moment, but Neil Young, Dylan, Phish, Wilco/Jeff Tweedy all fall at various points within the 20-50 show spectrum. (With Dylan, my count is boosted a bit b/c I saw him open for or play with the Dead several times).
