I think FD was the Can's white album but with more improvisation, a rock album for jazz and classic music fans, the departure of Suzuki was a surprise and a step back
but "Soon" is a great album anyway.

100% Disagree , Tanx is an excellent album in fact Bolan never made a crap record.

I also don't think that Tanx is bad (especially if you include the singles from around the era) , but i can't defend the ones that came after no matter how much of a fan i am.

Dandy In The Underworld isn't too bad, but the ones after Tanx are mostly poor. Zinc Alloy and Bolan's Stinking Zip Gun being the absolute low points.

"Music of the Spheres" was an absolute masterpiece in my book.

Light of Love and Think Zinc are two of his greatest songs.

But were they all preceded by albums that were much better?

I cannot recognize "Wild Honey", Friends", "Sunflower", "Surf's Up" and "Holland" as a decline. Those were simply a reinvention. You could point to "Endless Summer" or "15 Big Ones", but then they released their last great album (to some), the always divisive "Love You".

Everything that came after "Love You" was a band in fast decline.

Something special? More like something different.
It was a marked departure from the groups previous work
it was highly orchestrated, using strings, brass and a choir...no, no, no!
Don't mess with the formula, man! They never hit the top of the charts again.

For me, Waiting for the Sun is the most eclectic Doors album and one of their best with Morrison and the 3 instrumentalists all in top form.

I agree about Nilsson. For me, Son of Schmilsson is his masterpiece (perhaps partially because he had the brilliant Richard Perry to rein in some of his excesses), but PC is where you can hear him beginning to self-destruct. Pretty scary album.

The album had some of my favorite songs by them but it just wasn't a cohesive body of work. That album had no flow whatsoever unlike it's predecessors.

I'm one of the few. My favorite Stevie Wonder album, and certainly his most fearlessly, uncompromisingly experimental one.

What? For me, this is one of their greatest concept albums, chock full of great songs like "Alcohol", "Have a Cuppa Tea", "Skin and Bones", the title song , and more.

Maybe you could try adding a few cuts from their Peel sessions in there too. Those were of a similar vintage and would probably fit the mood.
