So, I have been on the look out for the mono mix of this song for ages. Can someone please advise as to where on CD this has ever been released in its mono mix? On the stereo the organ is mixed so loud I literally turn it off everytime, it ruins it for me. Thanks in advance!

    Never.

Avoid bootlegs that have this song in mono. From records, terrible sound.

45 RPM only. Get thee a DD turntable and a Shure M 44-7 or M35x pronto and hunt a 45.

Late edit: I always wondered what Gene Pitney thought of this record, as it clearly sounds like a Gene Pitney vocal?

I always thought that the singer (Mike Kennedy) was influenced by Steve Marriott, but it well may be Gene Pitney.

Crazy that the mono mix has never been issued on CD.

For the stereo mix, I like Bill Inglot's mastering on The British Invasion: History of British Rock Vol. 7 (Rhino 70325).

I've thought that since I was 7 years old, in 1966. To this day, I think of Gene Pitney upon hearing the opening notes !

Great, great song - the stereo version never bothered me. :nyah:

I also agree it sounds like Gene Pitney.

Re-Recording from the sounds of it. Not the Press US issue mono original. Of who's rights are owned by BMG/Sony Music Entertainment.

If you think that one is bad, how about this mid '70's "disco" version ...

Grant Life is a rock, but the radio rolled me!

I have the mono 45. Sounds great. The keyboard is loud, but the whole mix has the right amount of compression.

Rerecordings piss me off to no end. The only exception was Roy Orbison...he was able to pull it off. Yet another testament to his talent.

Actually, I think it may the "John Travolta outfit" that the lead singer is wearing, that makes that first version so "disco"? K.C. of the Sunshine Band is on line one and he wants his chest hair back!

I agree, especially his re-recording of "Claudette" on Virgin! That version kicks butt, in my opinion!

The drums sound pretty terrific here. Much more powerful than I remembered.

Yes, MYKE said it all. Hurl worthy re-recording. Not even 10% as good as the 1966 original. Quotable of the week. Liked x 10000.

    The version that really shot in the clubs in 1977 is from Belle Epoque;

uk/france single mix (not so good IMHO)

different euro (at least germany & italy) single mix (much better...)

Sort of off topic, but is it just me or is this song very similar to 'I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch)'? At least the rythm and intro part are pretty sound alike for me.
