    The great Val Lewton produced.

With the beautiful Simone Simon Cat People tells the story of a young Serbian woman, Irena, who believes herself to be a descendant of a race of people who turn into cats when sexually aroused. Wonderfully atmospheric and moody, the lovely Simone takes the cake as a femme fatal.

The Curse Of The Cat People 1944 follows up nicely IMO.

Both are great thrillers oft overlooked. The single sided Warner video DVD of these 2 movies looks good, a bit grainy as expected, the sound is good too with a bit of typical hiss. A restored blu ray would be glorious!

Is the 1980's film of the same name with Nastassja Kinski a remake?

    Loosely based on the original

The remake was just a vehicle to show Nastassja naked -

I like the original Cat People movie

Curse of the Cat People was pretty awful

Curse Of The Cat People awful? No, no, on the contrary. Look at it again. Forget about it having anything to do with Cat People, watch it as basically Val Lewton's childhood memories, recreated on film. The lighting, camera, etc., plays like a dream. It is really a beautiful movie even though RKO (typically) ordered reshoots, removed plot points, etc. Makes it even more like a disjointed dream.

I agree people expected it to be some type of sequel and cast it aside but it's actually a very moving portrayal of childlike imagination. Also I think it was Robert Wise's directorial debut or at least one of his earliest directing credits.

Simone Simon (both names pronounced the same, per my Grandmother) was reincarnated in the form of a girl I had a giant crush on in the 1980's. Spittin' image of her.

    My favorite pic of SS.

Love the Val Lewton films (with THE BODY SNATCHER being my favorite).
CURSE OF THE CAT PEOPLE is a delight to look at... very nicely done. More of a fantasy.

Cat People is one of my favorites, absolutely love that film and wish it was on Blu-Ray. I also liked the reference to it in The Bad and the Beautiful.

The faux sequel Curse of the Cat People is pretty good in its own right too.

My favorite Lewton-produced film (though I like all of them)...

Quite possibly the first film with a Satanic cult as the villains.

Both the Val Lewton documentary and The 7th Victim are scheduled tonight on TCM for those interested.

I love Lewton's films. The nearest thing to them is (not surprisingly) Tourneur's Night of the Demon (which I may like more...)
