I wish he would have stopped touring years ago and preserved his voice for the recording studio, but I think he is addicted to the audience feedback.

I think it'd be cool if he wrote and produced a pop-rock album for someone else.

Hell, he can play all the instruments, but I don't think his voice is there for that kind of starring role any longer. (Unless he starts writing material that suits it better--I thought it was pretty hit or miss on New.)

I think that George actually put up with quite a lot before he walked out, and it seems like he did start the sessions with quite a positive attitude. I remember being surprised to find out that he actually liked Maxwell's Silver Hammer when Paul first played it to him, and I also really liked it when he said that he feels an ownership of all Beatles songs, even the ones that he didn't write.

Disagree about his voice. It's still more than adequate for him to keep recording.

It's fine... but it lacks a certain 'wow' that it used to have. I guess some people miss it more than others.

Might I politely ask that any discussion not related to New is taken elsewhere, please? Pretty please. I mean, it's interesting and I'll happily follow it but just not on this thread.

  8. Not appreciably. The SHM-CD's are made out of a thicker, clearer polycarbonate than most modern CD's (SHM="Super High Material." Yep. I did not make that up.) They are similar to the thicker CD's manufactured in the 80's. They are possibly more durable than regular CD's. Some people claim they are easier for the CD laser mechanism to read, possibly resulting in lower jitter. When I have compared SHM-CD's to their regular counterparts containing the same mastering, I have not heard a difference. YMMV.

We could also just retitle the thread and leave NEW in the dust. :shh:

Sorry, I don't know how all of this Let It Be sessions talk started, but I won't keep it going anymore.

I'm well aware of Lennon's view on the matter. I merely responded to your assertion that Lennon wasn't mentioned in George's book. It's simply not true. Look at the index - he's referenced more than Paul or Ringo.

    Guilty as charged.

I just feel the need to correct errors regarding facts, even when they're OT.

Is $25-$30 reasonable for the collector's edition?

If it's reasonable to you, then "YES".

  18. Is "HALT" more common than "STOP" for traffic in the UK?

To go further off on the tangent, in "Sunny Afternoon" Ray Davies sings

    "Now I'm sitting here
Sipping at my ice cold beer
    Lazing on a sunny afternoon."

When did *cold* beer become acceptable in the UK?

I am aware of that, which is why I stated in the post that followed..."I guess to say he did not even mention him was any overstatement".

Sorry to be OT, but I just wanted to point out that in that same Rolling Stone interview John said that while he was mad at the moment, he still loved George and knew he was going to get over it soon enough. For some reason that part always gets left out.

  22. I'm glad to see this. My book version is too uncomfortable to read in bed. I can read a pdf on my no-longer-supported-by-Apple first-gen iPad, without having to look way up to the top of the page, or dealing with the curved page, or having to change my position, just to turn the page.

I have the same problem with my Lewisohn "Recording Sessions" book. I'm still on 1965, because it's not a cozy read, physically.

    Dr. Pepper What, me worry?

The problem is that we get so hammered when we make a new thread about Paul or the Beatles that I'm always ok with sub-discussions going on within a thread, even though I know we should make a new thread. Maybe we need a McCartney: General Discussion Thread and/or Beatles: General Discussion Thread?
