I got a chuckle reading this thread. Answers seem totally divided by those that know 1990's rock and later and those that only know 60's and 70's rock...!

I know many of the later people, I just don't like many, like Hole, or Melissa Auf Der Maur, or Sleater Kinney. I just don't think they're any good. But some are and I did learn of some I don't know. I'll throw it back to you: do you know who Wanda Jackson is? (No checking now :)).

I like newer ( last 25 years) and older stuff ( last 50 years..) and yes....I do know who she is, not exactly my cup of tea, but a good 50s rockabilly sound!

I like Hole, but also Babes in Toyland!

Okay fair enough and I've heard of Babes in Toyland but don't know the music, will check them out.

I like Wanda Jackson and Sleater Kinney. I would make the observation that there are a lot more women who I would call hard rock post 1990 than pre 1980. (not even counting Sleater Kinney as my definition of hard rock would be harder than Sleater Kinney)

FIVE pages in and nobody has mentioned Fanny / the Millington sisters?

They were the opening act for the Spiders from Mars shows back in the day at Bowie's request! They kick all sorts of a**!

Baby Jean Kennedy of Mother's Finest!

No female has rocked harder, she's totally underrated, in fact not even mentioned in female rock discussions!

It's a pity because the woman has chops like no other, just listen to their Iron Age album!

Pat Benatar, Joan Jett, Heart, Lizzy Hale, Lita Ford, Doro, and even though she's not typically associated with hard rock - Fergie gets my vote for this....

For me, Joan Jett is the hardest and most sincerely dedicated female Rock n Roller that's ever been.

(But I still like Quatro, Benatar, Slick, Heart, etc...)

Marnie Stern is the queen of shredders and is a damn fine songwriter to boot.

Stevie Floyd from Dark Castle is a metal lifer. She is also one of the nicest people you will ever meet.

Christine Davis from Christian Mistress was born to rock and wail. She sounds more like Ozzy than Ozzy ever did.

Poison Ivy from the Cramps rocks hard. As does Ruyter Suys from Nashville *****.

And nobody has ever rocked harder than Wanda Jackson. Nobody ever will rock harder than Wanda Jackson.

Good track. Lots of Who influence in the backing tracks, especially the break from 2:12.

Always liked their cover of I Want You To Want Me, which is more in the power pop vein.
