The early rock era had some amazing <2:00 songs 1. Not Fade Away - The Rolling Stones 2. That's All Right (Mama) - Elvis Presley 3. There's a Place - The Beatles Honorable Mention: Bits and Pieces (Dave Clark 5); Don't Back Down (Beach Boys); I'm Henry VIII, I am (Herman's Hermits)
Meant For You by The Beach Boys off the Friends album. It's only 40 seconds long but for me it's 40 seconds of pure bliss. I like the alternate version in the MIC box, it's a 1:50, but there is something about the Friends version I prefer more. Also Wake The World from the same album. It's only 1:31, but with such a great melody amd great harmonies it packs a lot into it. Plus it is such an uplifting song, No matter my mood, when I play this song it makes me feel a bit better. Friends really is an underrated album IMO. I think it came out at the wrong time, The Boys were no longer hip and most people didn't even give it a chance, but it's another of thosee great late 60s early 70s BB albums.
"Tara"-Roxy Music "Her Majesty"-The Beatles "The History of Rock 'n' Roll"-XTC "Two of Us"-Supertramp (live version) Others-- http://www.craveonline.com/music/lists/173135-100-best-songs-under-2-minutes-long
Squarepusher, "Tommib" (1:20). It's the electronic instrumental you hear in "Lost in Translation" when Scarlett Johansson is looking out the hotel window onto Tokyo.
I saw some of these mentioned, but others I did not: "Stay" - Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs (1:37) "Not Fade Away" - The Rolling Stones (1:47) "Talk Talk" - The Music Machine (1:54) "That's All Right" - Elvis Presley (1:55) "I'll Be On My Way" - The Beatles at the BBC (1:57) "Denise" - Randy and the Rainbows (1:58) "Crying in the Rain" - The Everly Brothers (1:58) "Bits and Pieces" - The Dave Clark Five (1:59)
'Till the Morning Comes was the first song I thought of when I saw this topic. Great song that leaves you wanting more.
One more ... Shel Silverstein - 26 Second Song (a song making fun of DJs complaining about long songs)
I Will - Beatles (1:46) I'll Follow the Sun - Beatles (1:46) Wake the World - Beach Boys (1:34) Birds in My Tree - Strawberry Alarm Clock (1:53) One Was a Time I Thought - Mamas and Papas (0:58) There's a Riot Goin' On - Sly and the Family Stone (0:00)
The Byrds - Old John Robertson. A remarkable synthesis of folk balladry, bluegrass picking, Baroque fugal structure, and electronic distortion underscored by a rock beat, all in 1:49.
