I’ve had a fantastic night, just me and my Oppo, playin’ music and surfin’ the net. Okay mostly reading the SHMF and makin’ comments. It all started with Grover Washington Jr’s Winelight. It was the first CD I ever purchased, I didn’t even have a CD player yet. But tonight, it was the DVD-A version. I could get lost in Jazz for a while. Then I randomly pulled out Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours on multi-channel SACD. I always like Fleetwood Mac – Fleetwood Mac more, but the surround sound pulled me out of the work week like diving into a pristine clear cool water creek. I’ve been working 60 hour weeks lately, work is becoming oppressive. I really need a vacation, but just can’t break away. For reasons unclear to the thinking mind, I put on Dire Straits – Brothers in Arms in 5.1 Surround. Why do we listen to anything in any other variation? I am completely absorbed into the sound, riding the waves and vibrations permeating my space. I don’t want to think any more tonight, what should I listen to next?

Please give me your 5.1 recommendations.

Although I'm a hard-core Pet Sounds in mono fanatic, the 5.1 mix on the 40th Anniversary DVD-A disc was astounding to hear. It really opened up the mix, much more so than even the stereo.

I keep watching this one, it seems you can pick it up without having to spend a fortune...maybe I should quit watching and take the leap... Thanks!

I really dig this album, but I purchased the Mofi before I knew there was a DVD-A version... Maybe it's time to re-invest? The Mofi is fine in stereo.

I dig your kind of music. I have all four of those. Gaucho gets played a lot, kind of like the default, when I can't make up my mind!

I have the Seachange Blu-ray Audio Fidelity Pure Audio version. I've posted about it in another thread I can't seem to locate... Very few albums can completely fill a room with sound like Seachange.

Well, I hate to admit it, but I am not familiar with Dredge so I guess I'll be giving YouTube some business today. Thanks!

I've had my finger on the trigger for Close To The Edge multiple times, but just didn't pull. Which Legend are you referring to? I'm most familiar with Poco's Legend, but I'm not aware of a 5.1 of that album, if it does exist, it goes immediately to the top of the list. I recently picked up the Ultimate Gold disc and absolutely love it.

Jethro Tull Thick As A Brick takes you for a very nice ride. Kooper Bloomfield and Stills Super Session has been a recent favorite.

Avalon is amazing. I've gotten lost there on multiple occasions. You know, I have the Love thing but haven't listened to it on the Oppo... hmmm...
