It's between "Centerfold," "Goody Two Shoes" and "Come on, Eileen" for me. Those are 3 incredibly catchy pop songs. Think I'll have to go with "Goody Two Shoes."

Yep, this. I like quite a few of the other songs on the list, but this one towers above the rest in my mind.

I was 12 in 1982 and used to make mix tapes from the radio on my "boom box". I loved the 80's top 40!
    I voted for "Centerfold"...very provocative song for a pre-adolescent.

Would have been an '82 chart topper in Australia

The best of the rest - should have included it over "Seven Tears"

I would have chosen "Town Called Malice," but it can't be overstated how important (as such things go) "Don't You Want Me" was in 1982.

Interesting that "Town Called Malice" is on 23 votes while "Beat Surrender" is on 1

From that list you'd think 1982 was pretty awful!

Had the 7" of this, stolen from my one of my sister's collections ;) Played on a Fisher Price turntable for years :)

This reminds me how god-awful most pop music was back then.

For me "Don't You Want Me" is as good as a hit single ever gets. It has it all.

I love Adam Ant so "Goody Two Shoes" gets my vote. I've never heard the Jam song that's currently leading.

    Korrekt!

Though it's strange for me to consider it an '82 single.

The sound of that track was so clean for it's time. Still play it regularly here...:)

Don't You Want Me - Human League

1982 - the year my wife and I first started dating. We went to several clubs on a regular basis and heard most of these songs on a regular basis. The one that seem to stick for both of us is the Human League track.

I assumed XTC's "Senses Working Overtime" was a #1 hit, only to find out it went to #5. Was gonna pick that, but now I guess I'll go with The Jam's "Beat Surrender".

I liked Centerfold at the time. What can I say? I was 13. It was a time when I was beginning to buy more and more music, but less and less of it was considered to be top 40.

I graduated high school in 1982. Looking at this list, geez, no wonder I was listening to music from the 60's!

So which country had Charlene's "I've never been to me" as #1? or is it just too embarrassing to mention? :) :) It definitely was not the US.

It certainly well contributes to why I say the 80's sucked. There is nothing on that list I even remotely like a little bit.

My vote goes to: Joan Jett - "I Love Rock'n'Roll"
