Always stuck with the insights of the artists of Termite Terrace. It was a short hop to Firesign Theater and Monty Python. Note as well the work of the Jay Ward studios:

Top Cat - which still hold up remarkably well
The Flintstones - as does this, until their kids appear
James Hound - haven't seen it in years
Tintin - this is the older version that, if I recall, didn't actually follow the books
Wait Til Your Father Gets Home

And through it all - Tom and Jerry - the older classics

There were severalI really loved- Flintstones, Jetsons, Top Cat, Road Runner, George of the Jungle, Roger Ramjet, and Bugs, but my all-time favorite was Jonny Quest.

I generally preferred the Looney Tunes to the low budget made for TV fare, though I watched it all, even stupid **** like The Superfriends or the Laugh Olympics.

First show I ever watched that I can remember was The Alvin Show, from 1961-1962. Terrific prime-time CBS show. The Jetsons came a little later, and Jonny Quest didn't happen until 1964. I agree, Jonny Quest on ABC was a real turning point. Many years later, when I was actually working on Hanna-Barbera shows, the producers told me that JQ was a huge problem because they had lost so much money on the show. After that show aired (and ended mostly because HB was losing so much dough on it), the networks kept asking, "why can't you do another show that looked as good as Jonny Quest? And the answer is, "you can't do animation this good for television or else you'll go out of business."

I used to watch a bunch of cartoons, but the only one I've sat down to watch as an adult (so far anyway) was Roger Ramjet.

And Crusader Rabbit was the first TV cartoon. Not much in the way of animation, but Crusader Rabbit and his sidekick, Ragland T. Tiger, were Jay Ward's predecessors to Rocky and Bullwinkle. As cartoons, they'd naturally draw the eye of the young children of the time, but you'd probably have to be a bit older to catch all the wordplay and humor.

Like Bullwinkle. I watched it when I was a kid because it was a cartoon. 30 years later I get the jokes.

I didn't have a favorite, I watched them all. But two that I watched religiously were Speed Racer and Kimba the White Lion. Top Cat and Courageous Cat were in there, too. Plus Milton the Monster, of course.

They did a fantastic job with the Kimba DVD's, but Courageous Cat looks terrible. I blamed the DVD authors for not restoring it properly, not getting the original masters, etc. Then I noticed that the dirt and grain and things were moving with the characters. It was FILMED that badly!

You're right, I read the Wikipedia on Jonny Quest and it says something like it was the most advanced animation for it's time...I forgot about The Alvin Show, another classic...
