Must have just scraped in did they? They never get played anymore that's for sure. Except for Gold :) Great song, but a bit repetitious.

And the original version from a year earlier with much more explicit lyrics:

It can very much be considered a regional one hit wonder.

Got a fair amount of play in Utah years ago.

    That album
That album is actually quite good...don't know why they didn't have more hits. I still play it once in a while.

I used to hear that and Bloodrock's "Gotta Find A Way" played on classic rock stations 20+ years ago.

The Robert Knight version and the more soulful Carl Carlton version are what gets played mostly in the US but a few more versions have been chart singles here as well.

You combine his work with Hedgehoppers Anonymous to make him a two hit wonder.

I hear about 3 or 4 Rafferty songs on the radio and he had the hits "Stuck In The Middle" and "Star" with his band, Stealers Wheel.

Midnight Rocks is another Al Stewart song that I hear on soft rock oldies stations. The album track Nostradamus was played a lot on rock radio back in the day. Al Stewart still fills seats well when he tours out here. Filled a concert hall in Vegas a year or two ago.

Over the years I realized that many one hit wonders from US and Canada groups are completely unknown to Europe, including around half the songs on this thread.
Despite their longer connection to the UK, most Canadian bands don't cross over to success in the UK, and even many Australian bands that were huge here in the US were only moderately successful in the UK market.
