A big budget adaptation on the big screen sounds exciting, but dragging it out over four films kind of sucks that excitement right out of me. I agree that to tell such a big story four films would be about right, but between production time and the release schedule it will be 2020 by the time it's all done. I think I'd rather just read the book again, and then if I'm still around in 2021 I'll buy the dvd box set.

I predict that the 3 hour R rated first film of The Stand isn't a hit and the other three don't get made.

I've read the book several times, both the original and expanded, and just don't see how it can be made into four movies. I could see it as two; the journey to Boulder and the end in Vegas.

Unlike the recent Hobbit fiasco, this is one case where stretching the book across multiple movies/parts is pretty much a necessity. The 1994 mini-series version of The Stand was 6 hours long and it *still* didn't come anywhere near touching upon all the subplots and events from the novel. There's just too much going on in the story to ever be condensed into one or two theatrical films.... I'm all for the idea of a 4-part epic.

Yeah, that sucks. I'm annoyed that we didn't get the rest of the His Dark Materials trilogy or any further A Series of Unfortunate Events movies (when the first one became a Jim Carry crapfest).

He may be well-respected, but I recall thinking "They want us to be scared of Jamey Sheridan?"

Though it's not as bad as the TV miniseries version of The Shining, where they wanted us to be scared of Steven Weber!

It was a joke based on the industry trend to "stretch" short stories over multiple sequels.... Ie: the Hobbit, the Mockingjay...

It should still have Gary Sinise in it.

This was done like 20 years ago. Was a made for tv 4 part movie. Even featured Balky and Sponge Bob

  18. Watch out for the special guest appearance by a party of Dwarves and a Hobbit in the third film. :D My favourite King book. I hope they do it justice.

  19. No, it featured Patrick. Sponge Bob was busy soaking up the sun...

The first movie will be the outbreak and an hour trip through the Lincoln tunnel.
The second movie will be the trip from Maine to Colorado, with an hour spent watching Trashcan Man blow up refineries
The third movie will be the trip from Colorado to Vegas along with the death of several major characters in Boulder and the teary return of Mother Abigail
The fourth movie will be the finale in Vegas and the trip back to Colorado, with another hour spent watching Trashcan Man wheel around nuclear bombs
