A little. Rubinstein told her to slow down.

Right now listening to my newly-received Bill Evans SHM SACDs. But earlier today, I listened to Colin Davis conducting Walton's 1st Symphony courtesy of Spotify. Marvelous piece. I don't own it, and the first three movements seemed unfamiliar, but for some reason I felt I'd heard the last movement before.

Really? Don't get me wrong. Her dexterity, fluidity, and overall technical chops are astounding. It's just that some of the slower ones I've heard before seem to lose a bit of their essence with the uptempos, making them feel like more of a workout.

I have dozens of her recordings but some to me sound a little rushed. I am not sure if she is way outside of the tempo markings though. However, some of her Chopin sounds a little too far removed from the tempo and it loses some qualities in the end that other pianists bring out.

I love her versions of Kinderszenen and Kreisleriana. I had some of her Chopin releases but this one along with her version of Gaspard de la nuit was what made me a huge fan.

I don't know if it's the lighting, the outfits, the staring or what, but to me the photo oozes sexuality.

Now enjoying another "new to me" $2 find:

These were $.50 at Goodwill today…nice additions to my Angel LP collection.
The first one is Prokofiev "Chout" (The Buffoon) and "Le Pas D'Acier" (The Age of Steel), Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra/Rozhdestvensky (Angel/Melodiya), you really can't tell from the photo.

The last of my $2 finds from this week. A tame, yet beautiful performance of the second sonata.

Helene Grimaud is a goddess in more ways than one. And I don't mean to objectify her like this, but what a beauty.

In honor of what would have been Schnittke's 80th birthday today. The 5th Symphony has absolutely shattering climaxes--I'd love to hear it live sometime--no recording can do them justice, but this one makes a brave effort.

Now on the turntable, "Bach - Motets" from the "Die Neue Bach-Edition" set of vinyl box sets that came out in the mid-eighties on Archiv.

This set (pic doesn't show all boxes, including the one I'm listening to)....
