The 1969 From Memphis to Vegas/From Vegas to Memphis double album is one half live and contains the great "Elvis In Person At The International Hotel Las Vegas,Nevada". This set was separated into two albums in 1970.

I prefer the sound on David Live. It is more immediate. Mike Garson is amazing.

If you like Chicago then go for Live In Japan and avoid the Carnegie Hall live album.

Always thought Rockin' the Fillmore had good sound. You can hear a bottle tinkling on the floor at one point.
Dan Hicks's Where's the Money is another. Recorded at the Troubador.

One of my three favorite live albums of the 60s.Absolutely stellar. My other three favorites being Five Live Yardbirds, Shin Joong Hyun In-A-Kadda-Da-Vida.Alright that's 1970.Don't believe it ever came out on CD.The original Korean vinyl can set you back a grand or more, and is a noisy bootleg. The official reissue from 2003 is still over $100,and sounds pretty good.

Would Wings Over America count? How is the sound quality on the original release?

Another one I think sounds pretty good.Kind of common, but usually trashed when it turns up.I was lucky enough to score a sealed copy once for $6.99

The Beach Boys "In Concert (72/73)" sounds great and the performances are pretty damn mind-blowing.

Velvet Underground "Live 69" is merely passable sound-wise, but the performances are off the hook.

Sam Cooke "Live At Harlem Square Club 1964" sounds fantastic and the performance is absolutely incendiary.

hi all! i've seen Little Feat Waiting For Columbus mentioned a couple times and have a question...there is no explanation of why some like/dislike this title.
there is the choice of CD Rhino or CD MoFi version. big price difference. (also wea japan but don't think i need to address that one) wondering if anyone might pass on any info you might have on these. is the MoFi version that much better? their DR numbers are only slightly better. are either version 'bright'? can't handle that. appreciate any help you can give me!

If you want really good live recorded bass.
Bob Marley - Babylon By Bus.
I have the non remastered CD.

Not a real reggae fan, but this concert jams!

Agree with most of the rock picks.

Another though only half live is ZZ Top - Fandango.

Some truly atrocious sounding recordings mentioned in this thread, many in fact and not just my opinion. You guys... this is the Steve Hoffman forums, try and speak of high quality. There is a reputation here to live up to.

If I had to pick one, I'd choose Jackson Browne's Running on Empty especially if I can pick the 5.1 release. I'm probably not the best at judging sound quality as I just started doing so in the past year or so, but I dig all these discs. Someone asked about the Little Feat disc, think bluesy funky southern rock with an emphasis on 70's party favors...

Jackson Browne - Running on Empty

Peter Frampton - Frampton Comes Alive!

Little Feat - Waiting For Columbus

Eric Clapton - Just One Night

Bruce Cockburn - Circles In The Stream

    Eagles - Eagles Live

Grand Funk - Caught In The Act

The Allman Brothers Band - At Fillmore East

John Martyn - Live At Leeds

REO Speedwagon - Live You Get What You Play For

Humans find it hard to distinguish performance and technical quality. If technically the recording is just about OK but the performance is out of this world, the brain says, "what a great recording". You get the same on the "best recorded album" threads.

Aww you beat me to it! I was reading through the whole thread thinking "Judy! What about Judy?!"

Also, don't think I've seen it in here - Rory Gallagher Irish Tour 74

And another two favourites of mine when I was growing up:
Cliff Richard & The Shadows - Thank You Very Much
AC/DC - If You Want Blood

My thoughts entirely, and whilst I think the recording here is better than 'just about OK', the performances are electrifying:
